I think as a horror movie it actually does a good job of setting a highly uncomfortable atmosphere. The relationship between Lestat and Louis is predatory and manipulative, and unlike the book, lacks any sort of explicit homosexual scenes between them; leading one to wonder whether Lestat genuinely does wanna fuck Louis, or if he's just this psychopath that's desperately lonely due to what he is. There's more going on there than the "lol gay vampires" movie that it's often marketed as. If anything, I think the director was intelligent to cut out most of the explicit gay shit (I think there's like one scene where Antonio Banderas kisses Brad Pitt), it keeps you wondering just what the fuck is wrong with Lestat, and made me feel bad for Louis being this obvious straight guy who just wants young Dunst but is stuck having to rely on all these mincing homosexuals.
