Never got into Spartacus but HBO's Rome was an abomination. I understand that general audiences were taken in by all the sex and swearing, but for those of us who actually studied Latin and Roman history in school, it was a borderline parody. If the Romans had been one-half as clownish and degenerate as they did in that show they never would have made it off the Italian peninsula, let alone conquered much of the known world. Then I look at who created the show, (((Bruno Heller))) and it all made sense.
