>Moviegoers rejected The Rise of Skywalker (its B+ CinemaScore was a franchise low), and with a global opening weekend of $376.1 million, it was down 17% from The Last Jedi ($450.8 million) and The Force Awakens ($528.96 million). It did, however, manage to still earn over $1 billion worldwide, but how did that translate in terms of profit? Not overly well, unfortunately.
>With a $275 million production cost and global costs of $627 million, Deadline reports that The Rise of Skywalker's net profit was $300 million. That's less than Rogue One: A Star Wars Story's $319.6 million, but much better than Solo (which ended up losing nearly $77 million).
does anyone even care at this point? I can only feel apathy towards SW now, they literally fucked everything up
Ethan Reed
>JJ, Rian, or Kathleen Kennedy?.. all of them
JJ didn't set up a new trilogy, instead he just made a nostalgia remake. Rian didn't care about star wars and just did whatever he felt like. Kennedy for hiring those retards and making the force female
Jace Gutierrez
Not only that, but it seems that they didn't plan anything, so they went ahead and made the movies without a real arc.
Joshua Lee
That's not taking theater take in account, or reshoots. Now way in hell that movie made a 30% profit margin.
It was stated by many people who worked on the film and not just actors, that the film was made up as it went along with no plan or story in place. Literally the only person who said otherwise was Daisy who was obviously shilling for JJ, but losers here would take this cokehead's word as law regardless.
Parker Ward
>does anyone even care at this point?
I dont even care to shit post anymore the whole IP is so fucking dead and beyond repair its not even funny
Juan Taylor
Fucking A.
Oliver Campbell
>execute order based dubs
Michael Baker
It took them five years to fuck up one of the most beloved franchises in cinema history At this point all I can do is laugh
>its B+ CinemaScore was a franchise low Is CinemaScore a troll site?
Samuel Wood
>Who do we blame for this? JJ, Rian, or Kathleen Kennedy?...
Unironically the jews. They take pleasure in making Lucas hurt since he was Hollywoods opposing force for decades making them pay for him setting the standards with THX and ILM
Lucas Hernandez
This is obvious if you look up what Ian ian McDiarmid said. He said he had no clue they wanted him for Palpatine and he got the call before 9 started filming. It's obvious Snoke was supposed to be the Big Bad, but Rian fucked that up and they needed to bring back good will with the fans so they brought back Palpatine, when they had no intention of doing so.
"Let the past die, kill it if you have to" "Oops nevermind, let's bring back PALPATINE! You remember Palpatine right guys? Please buy a ticket to our movie!"
Jayden Morgan
KK. It all starts at the top. Unironically, the force is female could have worked if she hired people that could put together a competent story.
Samuel Jackson
I still have sadness in me due to my childhood hero dying for this shite
Xavier Cox
Also thought to put in the video with proof than Ian said he only got the call after 8 came out.
>a $275 million production cost and global costs of $627 million, what are global costs? Promotion and ads mostly? Why are production costs so high? Is it mostly CGI costs? Or just paying the actors?
Mason Gomez
The only good thing about the ST is that it can easily be retconned down the road.
Levi Smith
A good rule of thumb is that the marketing cost for a major blockbuster is the same as the production cost, probably lower in the case of TRoS since there were massive reshoots.
Isaac Stewart
How?
Zachary Flores
ok let;s say global costs are marketing mostly, but the production costs still seem excessive.
Is there a pie chart for this or some book so that i can understand these things.
I just don;t get it. The costs seem astronomical. 1 billion costs for a film. Wtf?
Bentley Wright
Agreed. I stopped even posting in SW threads or listening to YouTubers bitch about SW because I'm just DONE. Only 3 SW movies exist for me and that's the OT. Never was a fan of the PT but I'd watch them on occasion. Now, I only support the OT because it's still epic and fun.
Disney will NEVER get my attention or my money for anything they create. I'll keep buying OT merch on occasion because that's my jam, but stopped buying PT, CW and Disney crap.
I don't care about Obi-Wan. I don't care about a Mark Hamill voiced animated SW cartoon, because acknowledging that leads to acknowledging what they did to him in the end.
I'll pay for 4k Unaltered OT on disc. But Disney can go fuck itself.
Cooper Russell
I blame the feminists at Disney. They never cared about profit. They only wanted to remove the male hero from the world and supplant it with their own shit version of it. It's insidious what they did. They would rather destroy the franchise than allow it to merely exist in our memories. They are they are not entitled to this.
They probably lost the Chinese market that they attempted to pander to with rose.
Turns out they don't like to see one of their own hooking up with a black.
Caleb Johnson
>haha a multinat only made $300m profit instead of more! Imagine unironically cheering that
Leo Lopez
>but stopped buying PT The PT has nothing to do with Disney and is pure Lucas. I understand not really liking it, but why boycott it?
Cooper Turner
>one of their own No, their own was killed off in TLJ. Rose is viet and chinks can tell the difference. They hate her and think she's ugly.
Jace Roberts
I know I didn't see this movie in theaters because of how trash the second one was. It was so bad that I swore I wouldn't go to another Star Wars movie in person because of it.
Carson Collins
At least one got a better send off than the other two. Even though they clowned on Han, he was still treated better than Luke and Ackbar.
Wyatt Collins
I skipped episode VIII and barely remember anything of episode VII (that I went to the cinema to see). Can I just pirate IX or should I watch the previous ones first?
Ethan James
That's what women do. They take anything men enjoy, then destroy it intentionally. Just to be cunts.
how can it profit 300m? it grossed 1000m, then theaters keep like 40%, so the studio should get 600m out of that, and the production and marketing cost 600m. So shouln't they profit $0?
Leo Sullivan
>Who do we blame for this? JJ, Rian, or Kathleen Kennedy?... At least pretend a little better. They always blame the fans, the white males.
Luis Clark
>It took them five years to fuck up one of the most beloved franchises in cinema history In a way it's an absolutely insane accomplishment. How do you burn away multiple decades in five years?
Friendly reminder that Joker smoked this flick profit wise
Cameron Sanchez
Luke was a shared hallucination of the Force all along, he was always dead. Sometimes the Force can come out and manifest itself during a Jedis most trying times.
Christian Bell
They are good in what they do.
Andrew Anderson
Because it will still profit Disney. I can never walk away from my OT. The PT may never have been my jam, but Hasbro makes some sweet fucking sculpts, and I was a zombie for their merch. TLJ woke me 100% and made me take a long hard look at what I was doing and what I was willing to give up. I gave up on seeing my whole crew one last time in TROS (even Wedge!). OT is the only thing I can't give up, and they can't take it away from me.
