Thanos is a better villain than Sauron

Thanos:
>Has a valid reason for his sinister acts: wants to stop overpopulation of the universe and prevent suffering and starvation of the weak and poor.
>has a softer side to him as seen with his affection for Gamora and acquisition of the soul stone.
>Is well-written and has some iconic lines in pop culture: "you should have aimed for the head", "you could not live with your failure and where did that lead you?", the thanos "snap".
>Overall is a morally grey antagonist.

Sauron:
>Is evil for the sake of being evil, wants to exterminate the world and bend them to his will just so he can rule over a bunch of orcs in a wasteland because... reasons.
>Lives in the country of MURDER near to a volcano called MOUNT DOOM I mean come on.
>Has zero impact on pop culture and no memorable quotes. Most people think he's a big fiery eye than an actual person.
>Has zero redeeming traits making him and unrealistic antagonist.

LOTR bookfags need not reply, don't try and get me to bust out my marvel comics just to shit on your "villain" even further and explain why Thanos is superior in literature as well as on the big screen.

thanos motivation is retarded in the movies and in the comic he's just a super powered incel, evil for the sake of evil however is kino.

he really just wanted to impress his waifu.

Here’s your (you) faggot

>Thanos
>Villain

Was Thanos designed for audiences who are used to considering any confident people batshit crazy when they tread on them? Yes Thanos was genocidal and as an invading force deserved to be stopped by any group that could muster a defense against him, but instead of understanding that conflict, the cast just repeatedly calls him a madman. I am making a political connection here, was Thanos written for audiences that just accept a lower understanding when they see an enemy? Mainstream media people I mean. You can still easily fight and thwart Thanos while understanding his motives aren’t PURE insanity

>thanos motivation is retarded in the movies
Not really. Yes, his reasons are flawed and are not anywhere as altruistic as he believes, but it's actually a real motivation.

Typical 90IQ redditor.

LOTR is not about punching the big bad purple man with his plan that a 14 year old would come up with. It is about victory and mastery over your self.

And the Avengers act like clueless dopes who can only call him insane. Just fight and win while knowing he has some motive. Why does this movie repeatedly insist Thanos is insane?

Because wiping out half the universe is kind of an insane goal, user. Also it was a tribute of sort to Thanos being known as "the Mad Titan" in the comics.

No, it's really not in a universe with all the tech and magic like MCU it does't make even the slightest lick of sense actually

>comic book
>literature

Yes, it's called children's literature, y'know picture books and shit

It’s not insane, it’s ruthless, massively cruel, and ambitious. What is the definition of insanity here (I don’t mean that old tired joke)? He has a motive

It's a real motivation but it's still retarded. He wants to drastically reduce every planet's population but what he fails to realize is that if you reduce a population without altering their resources they'll just repopulate back to the initial level all over again. Humans realized this hundreds of years ago, but a supposed genius from a super advanced space faring civilization didn't? He's bought every planet two or three generations tops before the cycle needs to be repeated again.

All stories are about that if you dig enough
Lotr is about modest people making an impact because they were underestimated

But the movie wasn’t about that. They didn’t go into Thanos’ ethics or the consequences of his actions or inaction at all. It wasn’t in the movie

Before you go "he could just create more resources".
Thanos doesn't just want a "stable" universe. He wants to "prove" that he was right the first time. That his idea of randomized systemic extermination would've saved Titan the first time around.
It's not just about "balancing the universe", it's also about his ego.

a gay retarded motivation a 10 yo could refute

"We should carry out systemic extermination" is an insane idea to most people, user.

I just cannot help but see the Avengers as some liberal ideologues who can’t conceptualize the conflict outside of themselves. That’s not so bad of course, they’re good heroes and they succeed in beating Thanos for good reasons, but there is something to be said for their political simplicity as it’s written for a politically simple audience. Good movies though

>Wipe out half the universe without destroying resources
>Exponential growth ensures that life will be the same in like 50 years

>evil for the sake of evil however is kino.
why dont people get this

‘Insane’ here meaning ‘really bad’? I just wouldn’t use the word insane. Cruel unacceptable and tyrannical, words like that are better

>That his idea of randomized systemic extermination would've saved Titan the first time around.
The idea that was dismissed as insane, if I may add.

>the movie doesn't acknowledge it's a stupid shortsighted plan so you're not allowed to be bothered by it

Saruman was the interesting antagonist. Sauron was just cool and more of an environmental threat

The conversation wasn't about that, it was about whether or not his motivation was idiotic or not, which it was

>be retard
>wants to fight overpopulation
>makes it happen in the most random and retarded way
>no long term consequences
>have the most stupid s0yb0ys drool over your master plan and make them feel clever
Everytime someone argues against abortion, i could show your post and win the debate instantly.

No one can be this redditbrained

>They didn't point out how retarded they wrote a character so you can't criticize it

I didn’t say that. I’m saying I agree with why you’re saying and the movie pretty fiercely refused to address this obvious conclusion

I wasn’t trying to disagree, only add how little the movie cares about basic thinking

Joker is better than both

they really shouldve had some kind of idealogical dialogue if they were gonna present thanos as the best viillain of all time

>NOOOO NOT CHEMICALS I'M LITERALLY GOING CRAAAAAAAZZZZZYYYYY

Exactly. And they managed to let him express his point of view without an ethical argument against it. It’s a big missed opportunity for a lesson on ethics or at least on why Thanos is beaten. Sadly it’s actually just about the action figure men all lining up

Thanos was fucking retarded in the movie. His motivation is literally retarded when he could’ve just used the gauntlet to fix shit. Only Starlin’s Thanos in the comix is real and even then he’s a B-tier villain at best, sauron’s lame too.

It's not bold it's retarded and makes Thanos seem like a midwit. Humanity doubles its population in a couple of decades. For a supposedly old and wise villain he sure does seem lack the basic knowledge on the most important aspect of his plan.

Is there any trait more indicative of being a cretin than referring to movies you like as being "fun"?

Not being able to elaborate on why they like a film beyond saying "it's just turn your brain off fun" is so common and it irritates me to no end.

"Venom was really badly made but it was a fun time so I enjoyed it", fuck off.

They tried writing a "morally grey" villain but then realized if he had any ethical resistance at all it would make him look like a crayon eater

I just wish this was in the movie, it wasn’t even subtext.
