Were westerns the capeshit of 50+ years ago?

>Fucking everywhere on TV, movies, etc.
>Most of them as predictable as the sunrise
>Had something of an extended universe with the man with no name

Yes. Boomer capeshit

John Wayne = Marvel
Clint = DC

Westerns were, and are Westerns. Capeshit is just capeshit.

shut the fuck up retard

Hit the nail on the head

What DC movie is Unforgiven?

Every decade or so has a trend, that’s how movies are

outlaw of josey wales is really different ftom most westerns

You mean capeshit is low t westerns.

I don't think so

Weren't there like 100 westerns coming out every year back in the genre's prime as opposed to the 5 or so superhero films coming out every year now? Doesn't seem like an apt comparison.

Why were so many of them made by italians?

>is popular product A just like popular product B because they are both successful?
Yes. Really makes you think.

Yes but I much rather watch an average western than an average capeshit

Is Yas Forums taste just a reflexive counter signal of whatever reddit loves? Pathetic

At least the onions numales have genuine enjoyment of their media, however limited and childish it is

WELL WELL WELL, LOOK WHAT WE HAVE HERE, WHY DON'T YOU GO PUT ON A PRETTY DRESS FOR ME, OP?

Western fans will be triggered by this but yeah it’s true. Not to say all westerns are bad though (just like not all super hero films are bad, controversial statement I know) it’s just that it was the most overwhelmingly popular genre of its time. Also one of the easiest to film because they had to many western sets already.

>reddit spacing
many posters here have genuine enjoyment of actually good films. posters with taste will bemoan capeshit because Hollywood could be putting out genuinely enjoyable and adventurous films instead of endless trash.

yikes, you need to go back

Is it like Winter Soldier of cowboy movies?

Unlike capeshit, some of them were good.

Westerns weren't blockbusters in the modern sense, they were 90% mainstream trash. In its heyday they were making shitty b-list western serials because people watched almost anything you would put out and it followed a familiar structure, like black hats are bad guys, white hats are the good guys.

All entertainment where it becomes very popular/has mainstream appeal eventually falls victim to formula and becomes "just" entertainment
However there are a few key differences in the genres that discern the two

Westerns
>often dealt with real world locations, props, and environments
>typically had themes to their stories and narrative purpose
>often had good music
>people shooting people
>often used history and the mythic nature of the west to make a point, often revolving around freedom v society, addressing histories, statements on violence and its necessity/evils, dealt with greed, ego, the concept of heroism
>even just "okay" westerns tend to be better than almost all capeshit

Whereas with capeshit it's more
>made up locations that range from gray concrete to completely CGI locals with no attachment to reality
>cartoons killing cartoons
>no narrative point, they are entirely plot-driven
>often have horrible or midling soundtracks
>because they are entirely fantasy, they make no narrative comment on history, culture or humanity at all aside from corporate-approved platitudes about "empowerment" and straight "good" guys
>never deal with the concept of anything beyond selling toys and the next movie
>the "best" capeshit tends to only be "okay"
Zack Snyder, Ang Lee and Nevaldine/Taylor being outliers, where their stuff had narrative purpose and strong aesthetic

fun fact, spaghetti westerns got their name thanks to t.v. dinners in the 50's being overwhelmingly pasta based at the time

No.

>it’s just that it was the most overwhelmingly popular genre of its time.
Do you really think capeshit is just a synonym for whatever is popular at the time?

how did a man in spandex and underwear become a national icon? does no one else think this look fucking retarded?

>capeshit this
>capeshit that
your brain is a rotten mush. do the world a favor and off yourself pls. thanks

Attached: 1498424218775.gif (800x800, 195.33K)

Westerns:
>Main character may die at the end
>grounded in history of the American Revolution
>deals with themes such as "What actually makes a man a man?" and "How does money impact a person's morals"

Capeshit:
>main character will never die because it's soley made to sell chinese plastic toys to bugmen
>based off of shitty children's stories "THE BAD PURPLEMAN IS GOING TO STEAL THE CHAOS EMERALDS!!!"
>deals with themes like "WHAT IF AN EVIL GUY WANTS TO KILL EVERYONE JUST BECAUSE?" and "WHAT IF AN EVIL GUY WANTS TO KILL EVERYONE JUST BECAUSE?"

Yeah totally the same thing. Tell yourself whatever lies you need to to fool yourself into believing you're actually watching cinema you redditor fuck.

>High Noon
>Stagecoach
>Rio Bravo
>The Treasure of Sierra Madre
>The Searchers
>The man who shot Liberty Valance
>3:10 to Yuma
>The wild bunch
>Once upon a time in the West
>Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
>The good, the bad and the ugly
>A fistful of dolars
>For a few dollars more
>The Ox-Bow Incident
>The outlaw Josey Wales
>My darling Clementine
>True Grit
and I could go on and on

There are no capeshit movies that are as good as any of those

Man, you don't get it. He's a symbol.

No because Winter Soldier is the same fucking movie as all other Marvel trash

Seven samurai is just avengers but no cgi. I guess westerns are the same way.

Maybe but at least it wasn't onions filled numale bait but pandered to masculinity. So while it might have been boomer capeshit it's still miles ahead of millennial capeshit.

I feel ya user. No hexagon mesh costume, no spending money from me!

>Equating Seven Samurai with Avengers
That shows how much of a brainlet you are
