Remember when Harry Potter was a kid's movie?

Draco said "You fell on your FAT ARSE neville!" during broom practice. It wasn't that kid friendly to begin with, just poorly written

kids movies used to be pretty hardcore, don't insult their intelligence

the big spider was scary

Temple of Doom was rated PG and showed a dude get his heart ripped out of his chest and burnt alive.

The books are like that too. The 1st one is just a straight ahead children's story, by 5-7 you have all this social/political commentary, serious drama about interpersonal relationships, etc.

even the first one though has a guy with a demonic face on the back of his head

Remember in the books when Lee Jordan sexually harassed Angelina Johnson in front of the whole school? Wonder why they left that out of the movies.

The books were always about Harry Potter dodging assassins and getting revenge on Voldemort for killing his parents. Even the first book.
You just forget that because you're carried away with how cute Hermoine is.

"No!"

>saying someone is an amazing athlete and attractive is now sexual harassment
so glad I'm not dating

And some people were plenty pissed about when it came out

Yes but the first, the second and kinda the fourth book had this build that followed harrys comfy school days before revealing the voldemorts plot at the end. From fifth book every story was gloomy from beginning till end

All kids movies need serious horror and moral aspects, like fables, otherwise they exist as nothing more than toy commercials
That said the harry potter franchise is objective shit, particularly after Yates took over and made it into not only garbage from a writing stance, but drab, antifantasy garbage from an aesthetic stance

fetus abortus

Yeah, it did a great job growing with its audience. The movies turned way too bleak and colorless way too fast but no, Harry and Co were 16-17 by the sixth book, how can you NOT bring up a bit of snogging here and there

You just know if it was published now that line would be considered hugely problematic.

This, fuck watership down

Was this an actual concept they were considering for Voldy? Would have been way more based this way desu

Why was there a fetus in the dream bathhouse?

Cos in the movies she's black

Remember when Harry Potter wasn't the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises? Because I sure as fuck don't. Seriously each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the books were good though

"No!"

The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

The 4th movie is on in my tv now and i can't notice how shit the directing is compared to the 3rd

DEH DEH

It grew up with its audience. Fetus Voldemort was pretty unnecessary tho I'll admit.

BASED

Fetus Voldemort was in the 4th movie first, worm tail drops him in the cauldron and he looks pretty much exactly like that

This

"No!"

Yeah but it's moving, in the dark, blurry and on screen for 1 second

“Deh!”

i just realized the whole last book is about getting raped and impregnated with a voldemort fetus, then attempting suicide and getting a miscarriage by spirit gandalf

nobody gives a shit about books
