Was there anything they could have done? Or was homelander just being a prick?

he could have not blown up the cockpit, or worst case, at least grab one small child before you leave the rest to die

From what we have seen, he likely could have saved them. He just didn't want to risk it, it is easier for him to let everyone die. Their deaths covered his ass and gave him and his people more leverage with the government.

If he saves them, questions get asked about how he handled it, if he doesn't manage to save them all, even more questions get asked.

>at least grab one small child before you leave the rest to die
that would have been bad PR

considering how bad it goes in the comics, they did much better this time around

Extremely

Extra-legal, violent intervention that ends in total catastrophe? It was all of them or none of them.

if the kid believed homelander tried to save them all, a little whining bitch baby would have been good PR to pull at heartstrings.

Also, I'm aware of the comics. But what's homelander end game in this show? Is it just so he can do whatever the fuck he wants and is backed by the government

also in the tv show Homelander flipped it to Vought's advantage, whereas in the comic their involvement was completely covered up

The speech was worth it

Yes. But he couldn't save everyone, and nobody even knew they were there, nor were they supposed to or even ALLOWED to be there.

Having one person die would ruin the entire image of The Seven. Homelander knew he had no choice but to let them all die because things went sideways. Hell, in the shot of the plane hitting the water you can even see land in the distance.

Homelander is in the end a Vought man. Vought is planning to assassinate the president so that the VP (who is a Vought man) can be sworn in and allow Vought into the defense contracts. This all happens in the background and it's only hinted at but Homelander catches wind of their plan and lauches a coup of his own, planning to hand in power to Vought. But by this time Butcher and the Boys have everything they need to go against them (it's the final arc of the comic) so it's an all-out war instead.

But also it could be said Homelander's endgame is to get the approval of the Vought executive who handles the Seven. In the tv show it was the mommy Stillwell character, but in the comic it's a cold, deadpan guy who never expresses any emotion, not even when threatened with a painful death by Homelander. Some even suspect he might be a supe himself because his heart-rate never even goes up.

How could it be worse, they crashed a plane into a building or something?

I'm pretty sure he could fly below the plane and just hold it on his back to slow it down and then land.

Homelander did nothing wrong.

He explained why holding onto the plane wouldn't help.

I can't remember all the details so I'll give random point points
>They bring the whole previous team (so no Starlight or A-Train), Maebe can fly in the comics
>Deep crashes into the front of the plane and smashes the plane dashboard window
>Black Noir gets dropped and "falls to his doom"
>Homelander rips off a door to get in, sucking out a small kid
>He also yells for everyone to shut up blowing out everyone eardrums
>Homelander still fucks up the consoles and shit
>Maebe gets swarmed by people trying to get them to take them with her *cue outside shot of the plane where she uses her powers to break free, limbs of the people holding her coming with her when she escapes
>Homelander and Previous Speedman decide that going high speed into the back of the plane might level it
>Instead Speedman's head explodes and the plane gets more fucked up
>It eventually crashes into Brooklyn bridge instead of Twin Towers since this is 9/11 in the comics
I'm sure there's more

Yeah, and I didn't buy it.

He could've flown passengers out in groups

Not hold it, help steal its momentum

Should I read the comic if I liked the show or it's more Gannis bullshit?

Started reading the comic and it's so much better

imagine 9/11 but it destroys the brooklyn bridge and has an even worse death toll

it was 9/11. in thus universe the president ordered for the planes to be shot down as their intel suggested they'd try hitting buildings. before the third plane was down, the vicepresident (a Vought man) knocked out the president, assumed control and ordered the pilots to stand down. Vought then sent the Seven after the third plane and it was a fucking shitshow that ended with the plane crashing on the Brooklyn bridge instead, also killing lots of people. the Seven involvement was completely covered up so people think it was just a terrorist strike. the towers still stand

it's maybe the Enniest thing Ennis has written. gutwrenching drama in one page, then a dumb dick joke in the next.

sad, I liked his Hellblazer

>If he saves them, questions get asked about how he handled it, if he doesn't manage to save them all, even more questions get asked.

it's 100% this. he doesn't want to have to explain the botched operation, it was supposed to be ez pz PR victory

his War Stories comics are nowhere as goofy and actually pretty damn good. also everything he's done for Punisher Max has been legit great (though he's also written some funny stuff there like the Barracuda miniseries)

Ennis is a good writer, but he likes his lolEDGE humor too much and manages to insert it almost everywhere

Literally just George Bush's bullhorn speech

I could pay for my neighbors rent next month but I don't know my neighbor and it'd be a pain and it'd make next month tight for me so rather than initiating that I'm drinking and watching TV
That's kind of how they felt.

Shit, never heard this one before, fucking nice

He probably could have slowed the plane down enough to make the impact non fatal to the passengers.
