I looked up the plot of the book on wikipedia, and it's such a bullshit attempt at alternate history with it's ending. So FDR wins a special Presidential election in Nov 1942, and we are told the Japanese attack Pearl Harbor and the USA gets into WWII and everything ends up the same as the OTL just a year later. Except, Lindy did not have an embargo on Japan, so it would take a while before FDR took office and could put in place an embargo and eventually cause Japan to attack. It wouldn't be Dec 7, 1942 in this timeline, but several months, maybe even more than a year later. Second is how the war in Europe is going, they don't really say, but since the US is not doing lend-lease, and there was a brief radio passage by Winchell about the US covertly sending supplies to the Germans, so the Germans should be performing better than the OTL. This make sit less likely they'd be in an position to support an eventual Normandy landing by Allied forces.

I don't think it was a false flag. Lindbergh did disappear in the story, and those guys were talking to Alvin like they had other spotters set up to detect Lindy's plane no mater which route he took.
