It was all a power move. Hank had been comfortable with his relationship to Walter being an Alpha male with a beta, Hank was bigger and stronger and a man in a "man's man" occupation of DEA agent (reality aside of how tough he actually was he saw himself and presented himself and was recognized by members of his community as a tough guy) while Walter was a highschool teacher with a (Hank thought) failed start-up under his belt. Walter wasn't a bad guy, he was one of the "little people" Hank was out there "putting his life on the line" to protect.
And then the whole thing flips on it's head. Walter isn't just A alpha, he's Hank's counter part. Walter is now a rival, and worse he's a rival who's been beating Hank THIS WHOLE TIME. He must have assumed the worst about Walter, that he had been having a good laugh at Hank behind his back. Hank was trying to rebuild his self image as a tough guy after getting btfo by actual hardcore cartel siccarios and here's this psychological kick right in the balls of his self confidence. So he had to know, he had to let Walter know and for the sake of his own pride (and sanity) he had to let Walter know that he wasn't going to let him win.

I think he just underestimated Walt because for years he had seen him as a lesser man and himself as the alpha male. He probably thought he could bully him into a confession or something.

Hank is usually a nickname, like how Dick is a nickname for people named Richard. I guess his real name was Isaac but he went by Hank with friend and family, and since that who shot him was neither friend nor family, he didn't want him calling him Hank.
