Also, Studio Ghibli and Studio Ponoc films go the extra mile to make their films look like retro anime and they actually filter them to look like they were made the old-fashioned way on analog film even if their later films are digital.
Mary and the Witch's Flower in particular looks like a really high-budget '80s anime and you will only see that it's actually digital if you actually compare it side-by-side with an actual retro anime.
So like video games, there are still anime that are retro-styled.
