I think he wanted to do it, but it's more likely the latter at this point. Unlike with Star Wars, he has actually always loved this role. However, since it isn't being directed by Spielberg or written by Lucas, he has become less enthused. Also, he made some pretty adamant statements that he does not want to see the series continue with a replacement actor and that he is the only Indiana Jones, meaning he'll be as mad as Mark Hamill is over Luke if they do him dirty here.
