quite a lot actually

who do you consider a horror icon ? and who are part of the greatest ?

do you consider lesser-know horror movie characters like the tall man, leprechaun, pumpkinhead or wishmaster "horror icons" ?

can we consider Hannibal lecter as an horror icon ?
is Elvira an horror icon ?

why you Don't respond ?

chill dude

do horror icons hate American flags?? or is the joke that the home owner owns a gun since he's a proud american?

answer please

The Universal Monsters are a good starting point

quasimodo too ? gwynplaine too ? which universal monsters are considered "horror icons" ?

the universal monsters are 15 characters or Something, you cant' say that they are all "horror icons" ?!

That's the Amityville Horror

how many are "horror icons" ?

The recent DVD/Blu-ray releases only focus on Dracula, Frankenstein, Bride, Wolf Man, The Mummy, The Creature from the Black Lagoon and The Phantom of the Opera so those are probably the only ones I'd call 'iconic'. Although I would say Lon Chaney's Phantom is probably more iconic than Claude Rains' portrayal as people consider it more 'horror'.

and why quasimodo was not part of the collection ? the Hunchback from 1923 is the first monster movie made by universal

you consider 7 universal monsters as "iconic", how many horror movie characters from the 70's to the 90's are considered "horror icons" ?

>why quasimodo was not part of the collection?
I'm just telling you how Universal have been making their box sets. I can't tell you why some of their other monsters aren't as well-known these days but honestly most monsters from the silent era have lost notability these days since no one watches silent film anymore. Really the only ones I think have stood the test of time are Nosferatu and Chaney's Phantom.

>how many horror movie characters from the 70's to the 90's are considered "horror icons"?
What the fuck is this thread dude? Why do you need a list of every notable horror character in the history of cinema?

i like to hear the opinions of fans. i want to know if those names (the creeper, the tall man, leprechaun, wishmaster, ash, tamara, the warlock, elvira, horace pinker and norman bates) are considered "horror icons"

Horror icons are really products of their age, movies that are either the best examples of their time or had a large impact on future movies of the same vein, so a blanket term involving the entire 100 years of cinema will invoke different ideas based on which age the person watched the most of, or considers the most "horror". A grouping might look like this:

The Classics
>Dracula
>Frankenstein
>The Mummy
>The Invisible Man
>The Wolf Man
>Creature from the Black Lagoon
They are certainly horror icons, not for their quality to scare, but for their status as mascots of the Universal Monster series

The 70-80's
>Jason
>Freddy
>Micheal
>Leatherface
>Chucky
Others like the Tall Man and Leprechaun are less icons and more important figures that are often referenced by horror fans, rather than mainstream people looking at what horror is.

The Postmodern
>Ghostface
>Jigsaw
>Zombies
>Found Footage
In the current age we haven't had enough time to really latch onto iconic figures or franchises. Instead, certain genres have become iconic, or at least over represented to the point of becoming a face of horror.

The 50s-60s era is the time I've seen the least of, so I can't comment on horror icons from that time. Naturally, Psycho would be the top of the list.

the biggest horror icon for me growing up was the Japanese ghost girl from the Ring, and the similar one from the Grudge

I was thinking of adding those but I have a bias against ghost and haunting movies. The black haired white robed japanese ghost is definitely iconic though.

>Tier 1
Jason Voorhees
Freddy Krueger
Michael Meyers
Leatherface
Ghostface
>Tier 2
Norman Bates
Hannibal Lector
Universal Monsters
Chucky
Pinhead
>Tier 3
Candyman
Pumpkin head
Creature features/kaiju flics

Phantom fits more in the camp of Quasimodo and Gwyneplaine, it's horror movie made from source material that isn't horror

and what about those ? the creeper, ash, tamara, the warlock, elvira and horace pinker

why the Phantom is not considered in the same league as Dracula ? he came before !

Not much horror in the 50's and 60's, because of the film code it was mostly creature features.

Only exceptions I know are Psycho, Peeping Tom, and Freaks, which was being reshown in college crowds.

ghostface above chucky ? you Fucking kidding me or what ?
chucky and pinhead are part of what we (the horror fans) call "the sinister six of horror"

They're starting to release box sets without Creature and Phantom now. Shit sucks.

He's too tragic, and technically not a monster

how many slashers characters are considered "horror icons" ? can we consider ash as a "horror icon" ?

who began the monster craze ? 1923's the Hunchback, 1925's the Phantom or 1931's Dracula ?

they remove the creature ? why ? i Don't think he fits into the monster universe world, he is a reptilian creature not a supernatural forces like Dracula or the wolfman, he never been in any monster crossover film either

Ghostface is more iconic, has bigger street recognition.

Most people know Pinhead, but good luck finding a zoomer who knows what Hellraiser is.

Child's Play isn't horror, it's black comedy. You'll get better scares out of Final Destination for fucks sakes.

Now go back to r/whereveryoucamefrom you fanboy faggot

what is a "zoomer" ?

final destination is for fuckers, bullshit movies, to the garbage

Kinda? It's just that the Evil Dead franchise became less horror more action. I guess it's in the same camp as Underworld.

This feels like an ESL third worlder using Yas Forums to win an argument he's having with an irl friend
