For me, it's Niihama (New Port City) from "Ghost in the Shell" (1995).

"Oshii based the setting for Ghost in the Shell on Hong Kong. . . . The film's mecha designer Takeuchi Atsushi noted that while the film does not have a chosen setting, it is obviously based on Hong Kong because the city represented the theme of the film, the old and the new which exist in a strange relationship in an age of an information deluge. Before shooting the film, the artists drew sketches that emphasized Hong Kong's chaotic, confusing and overwhelming aspects."
Anybody?
I Literally live over there
I'd respond with mine but jannies banned my main posting source. Fucking janny niggers
Primarily, I like settings like in OP.. from time to time I just love fields of grass and dream-like settings.
I lived in Taipei for years, big asian cities are a special kind of comfy.
What's it like? I've seen a few films set in Hong Kong ("Infernal Affairs" is probably my favourite), but would appreciate any recommendations.
It's shit. I don't recommend anything.
Damn. I missed an opportunity to spend a year abroad there while at university. I guess it wasn't much of a loss.
Big agree. Tokyo in "Lost in Translation" is a close second for me.
Hong Kong is such kino setting
Are there any films specifically set in the Walled City?
I would also add Singapore to the list of kino settings, with a special touch of futurism
pic related is my weekly running routine
Westworld season 3 was filmed there, to portrait Los Angeles in 2050
I like movies set in LA. Never gets old.
>50k people in a 0.01sq mile area
what the fuck
Tilted picture makes it look like some space city
However it's obvious to everyone and they also said in other interviews
It's not just hongkong they also copied other Asian cities

If anime is allowed Kindaichi had made the Kowloon mystery several times. It's about someone hid a nuke in the place to demand independence
I saw a MMA movie set in macao. Ok movie. Never really looked into macao though. HK took everything from me.
There was an episode in GITS 2G set in Taipei. Oshii went to taiwan some times ago. But we don't know how he or anyone felt about the place.
Hong Kong is kino as fuck. The only problem is when you're walking around there's always something dripping on you.
Same. It's such an amazing setting.
Why do American cities not build those massive apartment/condo complexes?
the imaginary macau casino
my favourite version is from Pirates of the Carribean which was a Chinese filled port city with mountains
more land, large percentage of automobile ownership
if it's gonna be a condo or apartment it will probably be 4-7 story
all the settings in Pirates are just so well done
