Explain to me why it is more noble to kill 10,000 men in battle than a dozen at dinner

based logic.

people dont want to have to watch their back 24/7

war isn't about what the losing side wants lmao.

are you a woman?

Because those 10,000 came expecting the possibility of death as an occupational hazard where the dozen at dinner came expecting to eat and politely leave without the danger of death?

If you kill a lot of men in a battle people won't want fight you, killing a few men in a dinner makes people don't want to relate to you.

>he thinks their militias are voluntary sign up
lmao

The men in battle are actually fighting back

battle will marry dinner

Because a dozen noble lives are worth more than 10,000 peasants

Based midge hater

>it wasn't even close to a dozen
>men at dinner don't get to fight back
>or expect the possibility of dying
>it creates a terrible precedent that is bound to result in more death and conflict
>it erodes people's faith in tradition, law, etc. which is all that's keeping society together at critical times
>you look like a huge pussy for doing it
Tywin was just butthurt that he got repeatedly rek'd by a zoomer. I don't get why people venerate him so much.

Based. Robb deserved it for dishonoring the Freys.

Because the next time you want to make peace your enemies will never trust you enough to consider it

>Explain to me why it is more noble to kill 10,000 men in battle than a dozen at dinner.

It wasn't a dozen though, it was basically the entire army.

Muh custom's and traditions!

This

if you kill people at dinner it’s hard to make friends.

no he never but you can expect to die once you have been enlisted.

Right? It’s like they forgot, or maybe he was being willfully ignorant, that the stark army got slaughtered as well. They only seem to remember the people inside.

This. Robb went for cunny and got everyone killed for it. Everything down the shitter for a pussy.

Broken men are more deserving of our pity, though they may be just as dangerous. Almost all are common-born, simple folk who had never been more than a mile from the house where they were born until the day some lord came round to take them off to war. Poorly shod and poorly clad, they march away beneath his banners, ofttimes with no better arms than a sickle or a sharpened hoe, or a maul they made themselves by lashing a stone to a stick with strips of hide. Brothers march with brothers, sons with fathers, friends with friends. They've heard the songs and stories, so they go off with eager hearts, dreaming of the wonders they will see, of the wealth and glory they will win. War seems a fine adventure, the greatest most of them will ever know.

Then they get a taste of battle

Because it's usually implied there is a fight in the first and you aren't really risking your life in the latter

what does it matter if you "expect" to die if it's someone else forcing you to take that risk?

The long term implication of it on societal structure: the rule of protected hospitality allows neutral grounds for communication and negotiation- resulting in more diplomacy and better trust between people (which leads to less conflicts). Undermining this rule once means it's no longer sacred, can't be relaid on- and thus no longer applies, which in turn will cause more wars and deaths.
He sacrificed a long-term, strategic principle in favor of an immediate tactical gain.

Tywin is completely evil and it is out of character for him to even pretend to care about 10,000 peasants. I understand they wanted to make the Lannisters a bit more morally grey for the show but none of his past actions even make sense if he's some kind of weird champion of the downtrodden because he still has his evil army composed exclusively of sociopaths who torture peasants and rape babies for fun. Why the fuck was he talking to Arya like he considered her a person when she was disguised as a servant? This show completely fucked him up.

It doesnt but being forced to fight in a battle is different than going to dinner with "friends"

>He sacrificed a long-term, strategic principle in favor of an immediate tactical gain.
Perfectly said. Whether George intended it or not, Cersei truly is Tywin with tits.

I still cant believe they cut this out even when they had based Ian McShane

>The War of the Ninepenny Kings?
>So they called it, though I never saw a king, nor earned a penny. It was a war, though. That it was.

It's bad diplomacy, you retards.

The Red Wedding made peace impossible. Instead of beating Rob's army in the field and securing a victory that would have been recognized by the North and honored as legitimate, Tywin tried to be "pragmatic" and ensured that the North would always be fighting him in every way they could.
The Lannisters lost in the long run because they never crossed a bridge they didn't immediately burn, assuming that as long as they kept betraying people they could outrun the consequences of constantly betraying people. Until they held the throne of the seven kingdoms but didn't have the loyalty of even a single one.

I can't

Bah. In the show Robb intended to march with the Frey’s down to Casterly Rock, this would basically be complete suicide and would result in a swift end of the war, therefore if Tywin knew this, then the red wedding would be pointless.

In the books, Robb intended to march North and take down the ironborn, this would continue the war for potentially years to come. It was smart in the books because Tywin did everything to hide his involvement in the wedding and pinned it completely on the Frey’s and the Bolton’s.

What you talking about Robbs army is scattered and Roose has taken whats left back North.

That's practical, not noble. The latter isn't always the former.

for nigger pussy as well

The North is supposed to remember, David. You dunce.

Yes. And now instead of fighting the army of the North out in the open, you are fighting the army of the north in night raids and smaller acts of rebellion capable for stretching on for decades.
Walder Frey ended up eating his own sons served to him as meat pies and was none the wiser, all because of what he did at the Red Wedding and because House Manderly doesn't fuck around.

The North is no threat the the Lannisters.

Doesn’t matter what happens north of the neck, the north is one of the least profitable kingdoms in Westeros. The river lands was the issue, and it was sorted and taken over by allies of the crown.

>Tywin did everything to hide his involvement in the wedding and pinned it completely on the Frey’s and the Bolton’s.
He had some plausible deniability, but it's hard to keep that shit up when you're handing out obscenely rich rewards to the Boltons and the Freys for doing something you had no involvement in. Or when you're mobilizing your troops to make sure they keep those winnings you gave them.
Which leads to another problem. Placing the two most hated men in charge of regions they betrayed and the families of men they killed is bound to cause more rebellion. And it did. Tywin wasn't as smart as he thought he was.

it's basically the same reason why you don't just bum-rush countries without putting forth a declaration of war first unless you like being called a coward by everyone

This. Way more people would die and live in misery with a breakdown of norms and order than in any normal war.

I find the difference between Yas Forums and /tg/ rationale of the situation fascinating.
