The safe trend now is superheroes, but this might return soon, there was already two waves riding off the successes of Gladiator and 300. Hollywood is also making lots of stupid decisions about giving creative projects to affirmative action hires who are unqualified and usually fuck up (see Cathy Yan's Birds of Prey, Ava DuVernay's A Wrinkle in Time (she is working on New Gods?? WTF is WB doing?), Elizabeth Banks' Charlie's Angels).
