im similar to you, it didn't bother me also and now...it still doesn't really bother me, but i do notice it. Do you think maybe its just that this type of setting, this mid-evil (sp) fantasy setting were for so long done one way and now recently there are all these new worlds that are taking a modern approach to it? I think most of those fantasy worlds are based on europen medieval societies with magic and creatures thrown in the mix, and medieval societies aren't known for being progressive, accepting multicultural societies. It's also the fact that they add those elements, you don't just have an interracial relationship, you have gay queens that adopted+gay elves+and all those other progressive elements. They tend to add up and become noticeable/annoying. They also add those elements without any rhyme or reason(elves follow the path of nature yet there are gay elves, regency is passed by direct heir but you have lesbian queens, etc).
