Why can't people write good sci-fi these days? Everything is filled with so much cliche. Faggot writers do nothing but copy good books from the 80-90s era, mix it up with terrible human drama and release as many mediocre tv shows/films/books as possible in case one of them turns out to be the next SW or Dune.

Take this fucking shitshow for example. There is literally nothing original about its story but the music and the visuals are quite nice. Determinism(basic philosophy and easy to work with in a sci-fi setting) is the main theme of the show and works fine up until the last few episodes. By the end, the show does a complete 180 and decides that determinism is false and free will exists.

The characters explain this in such a pretentious and retarded way i was honestly gonna drop the show in the last 10 minutes. This Alex Garland faggot is just an awful writer. I can't believe studios give money to fags like these while actually talented writers work for scrapes thanks to book piracy.

When will we get our times Asimovs and Clarkes?

>>Why do communists larp as storytellers?

why indeed!

Politics have nothing to do with this man. Asimov was a commie as well. He redefined the fucking genre.

It's about the always taking the easy way. Modern writers get their view with shock value and human drama. They don't need to work extra on the story to make it exceptional because plebs will eat it up anyways.

Never. Literary agents are all woke New York City 22 year old feminists that drop books if even a hint of "problematic thinking" is detected. Look on youtube where they do interviewed with them. All women. All leftist.

>By the end, the show does a complete 180 and decides that determinism is false and free will exists.
It doesn't though.

Lilyちゃん throwing the gun away made even less sense than the deterministic expectation she'd shoot Forest in the thing exactly as predicted by DEUS
the show came apart when they did the +1s simulation and ALL of the people in the room just repeated what the screen showed for no apparent reason
what was that even supposed to mean, what compelled them to do what the screen showed instead of diverging the instant they became aware of it?
why is Lily LITERALLY Neo (a half white/asian Messiah that breaks the simulation)?

lily and the blonde whore killed the show for me. Shit characters and shit actors.

I've heard that Tales From The Loop is the new sci-fi quinoa

>All leftist

You don't even know what that means.

Well for one this isn't a TV show, it's an Occult love story just like The Matrix or Dark city, Cyberpunk 2077 or a multitude of others.

In reality anyone who watched a simulated future would immediately diverge the moment they watched it. The rest is nonsense occult symbolism. Just wait until the "Neuralink" or whatever it will be called takes away our freedom and they get to live like gods in a controlled simulation like they want to.

Fuck you faggot. The last time you said that i had to sit through 8 hours of disappointment. I'm not even giving it a chance this time.

lmao at Yas Forums thinking the corporate hacks and nepotism cases who churn out this sort of stuff are 'communists'

the only way to reconcile the holes in the show is like...
assume everyone working at DEVS is a religious fanatic of determinism that imitates whatever "future" the machine shows, making a perfect consensual loop of C&E *and* E&C
so Lily breaks the loop just by being a visitor that doesn't give a fuck about the system?
yeah no, that's too fucking stupid, fuck this mess

Women

Got any other ideas to watch after finishing Tiger Kang?

>There is literally nothing original about its story
Other shows/movies that have an ultra-computer that does...whatever this one does exactly - I've only seen the first 2.

>anyone who watched a simulated future would immediately diverge the moment they watched it
Why can't the simulation account for the reaction of somebody who sees the simulation?

the simulation shows you fart
you see that and decide to hold it in
the fart does not happen

The thing that pissed me off was how they portrayed SF as anything other than a disgusting shithole. The homeless man would have probably jerked off and liquid shit blasted all over them.

Garland is making the best Sci-Fi in the industry besides maybe Shane Carruth in Primer?

If you honestly believe this you should seriously consider sudoku because i wouldn't wanna live with your pleb taste.
Name one good sci-fi he made? Everything he writes is stolen from other writers.

Just finished ep5 and I hear you OP
It does starting to get filled with pretentious crap and Garland preaches thru his characters in a blunt way.
And also so long , way too dragged out.

Pathetic that both of thsee guys are right.... He is making stand out stuff but the bar is so low.... devs ending was mega trash.

You would think having a bunch new streaming platform would create quality TV content. Nothing but rehashed trash. Sad thing is this what the plebs want. They enjoy these mass produced low quality shows.

Then the simulation knows to NOT show you fart.
Checkmate, free will believer.

It could but that would comedically restrain the predictions. I think the show got it quite right, in the case that there's someone who will specifically do what isn't in the simulation there's no way to deliver one that will make sense. That's why it went to static eventually. Although in my opinion it should have gone to static as soon as lily went into the viewing room. It made sense that they never saw this issue before because all the "scientists" in the lab were worshipping the things ass and wouldnt disobey it.

I liked it
derivative yes , but it had a solid story with at least a bit of intelligence behind it.

There must be boxes in boxes ad infinitum like fat man said. Maybe their universe is a DEUS programmed to be deterministic.
Doesn't explain why Lily could throw the gun though, which was inconsequential anyway aside from making their predictions fuzzy. I just typed out the only ridiculous ass-pull explanation I can think of but deleted it because it still doesn't really make sense

Sci-fi should be read, not watched.

Because that would go infinetly
>simulations shows you saying 1
>You say 2
>Simulation takes into account you are going to say something else
>you now say 3
so forth and so forth

That was just the heat sink
the entire building was the computer

There hasn't really been such a thing as a completely and totally original story in a loong time. Even if someone comes up with a story through a completely original way it will probably end up copying something in one way or another. The only thing you can do is appreciate the different takes and presentation a show or book can give you.
