LOTR was created because England lost many of it's original myths during the 1066 conquering. Tolkien was privy to this, so when he created LOTR he did it with the aim of creating an original myth for Britain. Many old countries have an original, the closest Britain has is Arthur and Beowulf.

LOTR will and needs to be subverted by these people. It means too much for them to not do so, ideologically speaking in order to facilitate the new modern myth.
