Shakespearean dialogue doesn't work in this plain tone and straight forward approach, if you keep the dialogue poetic you have to go all-out with stylish cinematography and presentation, and especially not by letting the director cast himself as the lead when he looks double the age of the character and bears absolutely zero resemblance to them.
