In the books, he is called Liet Kynes and is an Imperial planetologist on Arrakis, also known as Dune. His father was also an Imperial planetologist who saved a bunch of Fremen from some Harkonnens. He then started hanging out with the Fremen and telling them that they could change the planet of Arrakis from a desert into a paradise of jungles and forests through ecological transformation or some kind of terrraforming. He married into the Fremen society and his offspring, Liet Kynes, also followed in his footsteps.

Has the journalist read the books? Because the ecological transformation of Dune is actually killing the giant Sandworms, that the Fremen call Shai-hulud. I'm already on God Emperor of Dune. I'm rereading the books.
