Actually, I respect the shit out of Christopher Tolkein for resisting the urge to fill in the blanks or rewrite his dad's notes. If you read the Silmarillion or Unfinished tales you can really feel how uneven the tone and level of detail are, which isn't necessarily a good thing but indicates that he presented the work pretty much as he found it.
A more arrogant editor might have tried to flesh out everything so it all felt consistent and less rough but based Chris knew no one could write those stories like his dad would have so he left it alone out of respect. He didn't want his dad getting the D & D treatment.
