Maybe all the announcements only served to give the appearance that the franchise is doing well. Most of them show little to no sign of being beyond the concept stage and having actual money and effort invested into them already.
Read a supposed leak about a Discovery movie yesterday, maybe it's true for once and they intend to use it to wrap up things after the seasons that have already been shot. Firefly got a wrap-up movie as well.
