Stillsuits

The stillsuits look so cheap.
But thats not the problem.
I would have spent Little money on the stillsuits.
But where are the fuckin garments?
No one in the book is wearing a naked stillsuit.
You need thick clothing around it aswell.
Where the fuck are the hijabs?
Where are my ceremonial green garments.
What a lazy fuckin production!

>No one in the book is wearing a naked stillsuit

I don't remember this and it's never reflected in the covers

this flick isn't for you
it's for people that love trash like star wars, harry potter, game of thrones, the hunger games, etc

dune 1984 already got the best stillsuits, Villeneuve and his team had to make the best of what they got

what the fuck is going on with the suits having two sets of reinforced knuckles?
Also these look like shit

They are cheap motorbike gloves apparently.

Wrist knuckles?

Not "apparently", they are.

Chalamet looks legitimately beautiful in this shot.

Also the suits look perfectly fine to me, although I will never understand why would they dress in almost black in the desert.

its a visual medium, what's the point if you can't even see them? plus jessicas wearing a fucking hijab.

Because they travel at night. And when your hiding behind dunes in the moonlight black clothing is better. Stealth is a big part of travel in the desert especially with harkonnen patrols.

Where, can i have some of your hallucinogenics?

My problem with the stillsuits - and Lynch made the same mistake - is they look mass produced. The Fremen are a people living in a tribal structure, so I doubt they have a factory somewhere churning out suits all the time. Instead they are likely custom-made for the individual, looking similar but not the same.

In fact, there's even a line in the book about there being city-made suits, but people only trust the Fremen-made ones.

It would be extra work for the costume designer/department but I think it might have shown been a truer depiction of Dune.

looks dishonest

>Hasn't read dune

...

my own personal problem is this shit is supposed to be like 20,000 years in the future and we don't have some sort of crazy quantum leap in clothing?

same fucking straps, fasteners, belts and zippers, and tacticool gloves and shit?

people criticize the mcu for using too much cgi on costumes and shit, and that's a great point, but this is the opposite, denis SHOULD use more cgi and go craaazy with it, this shit looks mass produced paintball/bmx gear, because that's essentially what the wardrobe department went out and bought. even something like the 5th element is memorable for its costumes. original 1984 dune had a better aesthetic for the suits, especially considering the time it was made

this shit screams near future not fucking 20,000 years later. one of the biggest problems with far scifi instead of near-scifi

I still cant get over how adorable rebecca is here. She looks younger than Timothee

>we don't have some sort of crazy quantum leap in clothing?

I'd say a Stilsuit that recovers 99% of your body moisture is a bit of a quantum leap.

If I recall correctly from the Dune Encyclopedia, there were a bunch of dark ages that happened along the way, including one that fucked all of humanity's computers for thousands of years.

A.I is outlawed because it is dangerous in the hands of despots so they use mentats which are humans bred and trained in logic.

Truer depiction of Dune? The fremen had factories, asshole. You couldn't even read the book.

i always imagined them having brown cloaks made of a rough garment on top of the suit

It looks good enough, I'm just worried that the entire movie is gonna be VISUALS: THE CINEMATIC EYEBALL EXPERIENCE. Just watched 1917 the other day, it was absolutely god awful. The director was just jerking off his VISUALS into the camera.

Jessica looks pretty cute tho

The Bulerian Jihad was probably the last one, AI enslaved most of humanity, who were so dependant on technology and AI themselves, they didn't know how to fight back initially, build any weapons to fight the AI or even repair and maintain their own ships.

This took place 10,000 years before the events of Dune, but the extent of destruction and loss of technology and knowledge would've set back human society a great deal.

should of had an invisible membrane around their body so they can be naked throughout the movie

>AI enslaved most humans
Important to note it was people in control of machines not the machines themselves that did it.

Which is an irrelevant detail, because over the stillsuits they basically wear a full-body burqa at all times.

uhh ok i was talking about the cloth anyway.

And the guy you were replying to was talking about the colours of the stillsuits themselves

One of the things I'm hoping for from this movie is a good depiction of mentats. A human bred to be a computer is a really interesting concept, but I don't think they'll pull it off successfully. Give me some weird mix of android and human with a really uncanny valley vibe, that's what I want.
