What went so RIGHT?

It laid the foundation for this.

And MK was a fun film without being goofy. And milky thighs.

>catchy, instantly recognizable theme
>comfy island setting
>great fights/choreography
>good pacing
>they used a lot of the characters from the game but cut out who they didn't need, wasn't bloated (like Street Fighter)
>characters looked like their video game counterparts
>Gorro
>we were too young to realize it was basically Enter the Dragon

>characters looked like their video game counterparts
would never happen today, save for Jax

and the white women

Linden Ashby is best live action and Andrew Bowen is best video game Johnny Cage.

good music, good characters, good sets, decent costumes, good fights, kept the plot simple while respecting source material

the new mortal kombat movie got pretty close except there is no white guys because they replaced johnny cage with an oc donut steel .
really hope the rumors are false about that. i dont even mind if johnny is asian

Jesus is this a mortal Kombat film thread? Hold up I think I still have the VHS laying around

this

this

kinda based but dude when you think about it logically...

TEST
YOUR
MIGHT

This pretty much sums it up.

Also based Carey Tagawa, Christopher Lambert and Linden Ashby were charismatic champs in the movie and al the other actors really sold their roles. I cant think of a single performance that isnt great in this film.

LET MORTAL KOMBAT BEGIN!

>make one of the all time GOAT sets just for a 2 minute fight scene

Fantastic effort by everyone involved.

REPTILE

FLAWLESS VICTORY

>it was called revenge of scorpion
>scorpion was hardly in it
>sonya was a angry man hating nutcase
>treated johnny cage like shit! he did none of his signature moves ether
>goro died like a bitch

>I cant think of a single performance that isnt great in this film.
that's what blows me away. i just watched it and every actor takes their roles seriously yet also with the knowledge that it's a campy action movie. I have read that they had a great time filming it as well. Brigette Wilson dislocated her shoulder and Liu Kang broke his rib during filming yet pretended to be fine. It's just crazy to me how professional they were.

someone shoop sub zeros face onto the babys

Cage vs Scorpion was superb.

>The worst injury was when Linden Ashby (Johnny Cage) mildly bruised his kidney in his fight scene with Scorpion (Chris Casamassa). Ashby originally requested a stunt double, but Robin Shou convinced him that the fight would look much better if he did it himself. Ashby wore protective padding on his back, but a kick from Casamessa just happen to land in between them, injuring his kidney. Ashby said that it was so painful that he urinated blood after that.

Robin Shou bullied Ashby into injuring himself in order to make the movie better. Dare i say it?

It really was. Two bigger dudes just throwing heat at each other. Pretty nicely highlighted what you'd expect Cages fighting style to be.

But Liu Kang vs Reptile was definitely the highlight of the entire movie. Those two guys were going at about 99.9% the entire fight and you can tell.

>man can pork his wife and see be in Resident evil fanfiction
>now monster hunter fanfiction as well
Lucky bastard

even without the gruesome violence the games are known for it was still really good
pretty impressive imo

alright this one takes the cake for me
>Since Lambert was the most expensive actor on set, the production could only afford him for a few weeks of close-ups in an LA studio; a stand-in would be used for the wide shots filmed in Thailand. However, Lambert believed that the movie would be better if it was him all the time, so he came to Thailand for no extra charge (no doubt to the chagrin of his agent and managers). He even paid for the wrap party afterwards.
>In real life, Christopher Lambert is an enthusiastic gamer himself.
immortally based

Robin was the fight choreographer and prob got injured all the time doing his own stunts. All he was doing was making a man out of Ashby

Fun guy

Truly based God of thunder.

> We originally had Cameron Diaz cast as Sonya Blade. We were at New Line when The Mask was in postproduction, and Cameron Diaz was not a household name. No one knew her. New Line said, "Why don't you look some of the dailies that are coming in from this film and see what you think of this young, unknown actress." As soon as we saw the dailies from The Mask, there was no question that she was a star. We put her into training, because she had not really done this kind of martial arts work before. She broke her wrist right before shooting to the point where she couldn't do the martial arts stunts we needed. We were very happy with Bridgette [Wilson-Sampras]. It was great she was available.

Seriously this.
It fucking blows my mind how people in costume design royally fuck up video-game and comic costumes when the blueprint is already laid out for you.

the can only be one........fun guy

Diaz would have been trash for the role desu. Too skinny and not sassy enough. Bridgett was perfect.

And that is why everyone loves this guy.
My fav, the fortress.

a friend of mine knew this kid who was into martial arts and he invited us to his karate class to watch him do martial arts shit. i didnt want to go but i got dragged into going anyways. so we get there and its in one of those shopping plaza building and the teacher makes his students line up for warm ups and out of nowhere the mortal combat music starts blaring out the speakers and all the students start doing their warm ups with serious looks on their faces and yelling. i just busted out laughing and walk out the door and my friend comes running out laughing too and we took off. later on his friend meets up with us and tells me that wasnt cool and that some of the other students wanted to kick my ass lol

my school had two no educational vhs, princess bride and fortress, so the end of every year last class we ether watched princess bride or fortress, fortress was my first violent film

>sonya was a angry man hating nutcase

Why does the west always do this? Why do they equate turning a woman into an insufferable cunt as good writing?

Did it bug anyone else that Scorpion interfered in the Liu Kang/Goro fight with no repercussions, despite Mortal Kombat actually being declared on that one?
