Because you compare them to the general population. I'm sure child actors are a lot more likely to become successful actors (in adulthood) compared to the general population, but there're a lot more of the 'general population'.
They were never great actors to begin with. Most child actors are shit. You can get away with bad or easy performances when you're 14 but less so when you're 24.
