Was this one of the biggest, most unexpected twists in film history?

No because all the promotional material spoiled the twist

The movie Terminator 2 is obviously structured to make this a twist, but the entire marketing campaign spoiled it.

Why the fuck do trailers always ruin everything? Its even worse now.

to be fair, even without marketing/pop-culture spoiling it, it's pretty obvious he's not a bad guy. Compare the way he handles the biker bar in T2 vs the punks in T1.

I knew he wasn't a bad guy when he didn't slaughter the bikers.

And the foreboding music during the introduction of T-1000. But I never had an opportunity to first watch the first movie and then T2 with no prior knowledge of what happens.

9mm Uzi

no because they spoiled it in the trailer

to me, yes.
I went in to the movie blind and still thought Arnie was the bad guy. I was literally blown away.

No because it was spoiled by the marketing for the film.

The whole world knew even before the movie came out.

he wasnt armed with a gun at that point. his first weapon was stealing it from the fat owner.

Alot of people just saw T2. So when I show the them the first one they are shocked to see the T-1000 being the villan

I used to love how movies did this. You could literally see the ending of Texas Chainsaw Massacre by watching the trailer. why did they do this?

Still, back then you just had to avoid watching movies like Days of Thunder or Bird on a Wire to not see the trailer. Or whenever the trailer was released.

>the trailer spoiled it broo
Yeah it definitely wasnt bad to the bone playing after ahnahld takes the dudes clothes and shit in a comedic scene

Nope, first gun he took was the burnt biker‘s 1911

he didnt have a gun when he killed those punks in the first movie either. the point was if he was evil he would have dealt with the bikers in a much more brutal lethal manner.

you know trailers come out before the movie does right?

>punks
it was only the guy with his heart ripped out. Bill was pushed against a fence.

not having seen the trailer i remember it being obvious that robert patrick was the bad guy. he had the bad guy music playing when he was on screen and he also acted ominously.

I dunno why it's so controversial to say that T1 > T2
T2 is great but T1 is the superior movie.

The very first thing the T1000 does is kill a cop isn’t it?

It's not. They're both great.

Honestly it is same kind of twist what was first movie. Guy who stalked main character turned out to be protector, this time it was Arnie

I'm glad I went in blind

Even blind, you have to be retarded to think the bar fight scene where he only acted in self-defense, didn't kill or even seriously injure anyone by terminator standards, and put on some sunglasses to the tune of "Bad to the Bone" indicated that he would be a villain in this movie.

Pretty sure while watching it I only remembered that he beat up some bikers in the first movie and not specifically that he killed them and what the difference between both scenes would imply

In the first movie he straight up punches a guy through the stomach, Kakyoin-style

Cameron deliberately made what the T-1000 did to the cop look ambiguous. It looks like he could have punched the cop in the stomach, then stole his uniform, and it isn't until you learn that the T-1000 can form its hands into blades that you realize he killed the cop.

No not at all. Even if you don't know any spoilers the T-1000 is set up as the baddy from the get go with the brooding music and he kills the first guy he sees.

I'm such a fag this scene made me want a lever action shotgun

I thought Terminator 2 felt so "plastic" like a capeshit movie, especially the part where he summarizes not killing anyone.

>watch T2 for the first time last week
> wtf I didn't know this would be the old yeller of action movies

He murdered a guy for his clothes in the first
