Yesterday, as I walked the streets, I stared into the abyss itself. I saw something monstrous, such an abomination that I didn't sleep that night, nor do I know if I ever will. I can't decribe what the monster looked like, all I saw was an oily shadow, covered in grease. It then spoke, it you could call it it. "Pizza pizza! Fugghedabahtit! Piscatore!" a guttural sound which shook my bones.

I see these creatures every day now, and I'd sooner see a double rainbow now than a night without nightmares.

Lovecraft's racism was unusual even for his time and is a major influence in his work, to such an extent that discussing Lovecraft without mentioning his racism is like discussing C.S. Lewis without mentioning his faith. He was incredibly terrified of his fellow man and even his friends remarked on his willingness to walk in the street in certain relatively ethnic areas near where he lived. The whole concept of Lovecraftian horror was born from his morbid fear and hatred of the unknown being exaggerated to surreal proportions in his work.

I wasn’t even accusing him as though he were wrong or like his views weren’t coming from a reasonable place, just describing him as he was, which was a sheltered guy who was honestly very afraid of people who weren’t like him, even compared to his contemporaries, many of which didn’t have nearly as much of a problem with foreigners as he did for a sizable portion of his short life.
