Its legitimately a really well made musical.

People screech about it because all of the cast except king george are black/latino/asian/etc. Its meant to represent the power dynamic between the colonists and England.

Outside of maybe two or three mentions of slavery (I remember someone mentioning Hamilton's essays about abolition and Hamilton calls out Jefferson for being a slave owner at one point while bragging that the south is wealthy and debt free) race isnt directly mentioned.

The real themes of the musical are legacy, loyalty, and jealousy.

It is true that it is probably overhyped but it doesnt mean its bad. I saw it in person when it was in chicago and loved it.
