Read the books or watch the show. The movie only covered like 3/4 of the first book but the show covers all of it plus bits of the second.
Fuck that movie honestly. I liked it but it could have been so much better. The casting was perfect but that and the BEAR FIGHT are the only things it has on the show

Most VR games are clunky test demos because the technology still isn't really there yet, but as far as VR games go, it's probably one of the best. I wouldn't say it's worth the purchase if you don't have a headset, though.
