Bene Gesserit were never 'space nuns', that article misunderstands the political dynamics of Dune. It's true that generally, women were not in the forefront of power structures like the Landsraad, Fremen tribes, and so on until later on in the books but the Bene Gesserit themselves are more like women Jedi, not nuns. Everyone knew they were behind nearly everything and the BG even dictated to the Emperor on issues. No one fucked with the BG except the Harkonnen once IIRC and they did it with the utmost secrecy since they knew they'd be eradicated if it came to light.
