Watch movie

>watch movie
>go online to see discussion because I have no friends
>most of the comments are boring surface level shit
>a shockingly high amount of "oh man I didn't even see/hear/get that part lol"
When did you realize that most people don't even watch movies to enjoy them but as something to have on in the background which is why only shit gets made these days?

Didn’t read your post, but that dude is literally playing chess with his fucking brain. Lmao wtf

people do that for everything, music films whatever, people just use it to not be alone with their own thoughts mostly

Then why not pay attention? I watch movie drunk/high like 50% of the time and go here other "sites" to read film discussion and it's always lowest common denominator shit. Thought about joining my local film club but it seems cringe

Also watch 90% of movies under the influence. It's because I have no-one to watch them with and usually I feel like it allows me to absorb more of the otherwise 'cringey' stuff and whatnot. It works just like it does the same way one goes to a pub, it's a lubricant. In my case, it allows me to absorb material that I would otherwise get bored of or disregard.

Doesn't itch the scratch as well as scrolling

Anything that it's successful in netflix is just that. Background noise for brainlets to hear while they look at their phones. What makes me shudder is that some of those retards are gonna be the screenwriters and directors of the future.

Art in general is gonna be snuffed out by lazyness and corporate greed

yup this 100%. only thing i'd add is that it also lets me be less of a sperg about "wait i can watch a movie or i can play a game or scroll Yas Forums or watch 2 tv shows or watch youtube...it's 2 am and I've been on Yas Forums for 5hrs. I could've watched a movie. If I'm not sober I just get into the kino or turn it off and find something else good.

yeah i don't care so much about corporate greed. a lot of families eat because of 1 movie getting made. I just wish they weren't all satanic pedophiles and made good kino.

this is what you are here for bro

You should care because it's the reason big studios seldom give a chance for small productions to be made. They are in a win big or absolutely bomb mentallity because they care about bragging about their profit margins every fiscal quarter.

I love it when people say "I have no friends" and then proceed to spell out exactly why

welcome to the rice fields motherfucker.

>The second screen came first, I lost the abliity to focus and be entertained, let alone entertain another, then came her second boyfriend. I could of stopped it if I just stopped drinking soi or had rules about quality screen time and screen-free time in my life.

its also check

When I get invested 90% of the time I can never really express what I want to say and just end up saying the generic shit the OP mentioned, then I find actually insightful posts that mention all the the things I actually felt/noticed. Fuck I wish I was actually good at conveying things.

Watch more movies and read some books :^)

the best movies have already been made
hollywood dictates that new movies are made for money, passion takes a backseat even for loaded guys like QT

holy shit...

I am doing that right now, but I'm pretty sure I'll always be pretty shite at it

unironically what said
good critique is good because it's true analysis of the work. the more art you see the more good things you'll recognize and be able to articulate

Checked.

keep a diary and ask what you would have done differently to the character. Brings your own contrast to the story and you should be able to get some good concepts out of it.

>not already knowing this
You have to go back

I find myself explaining scenes to my girlfriend that she just watched.

It's so basic, I feel like all the information is there if you just pay attention but she... she just doesn't get it.

Is nuance such a weird thing?

You also just need life XP, not sure how old you are but it will unveil a lot of what you consume in literature and film (and other arts that you are into). At least it has / does for me.

Understanding Movies by Giannetti is pretty good too, nice and entry-level it helps establish fundamentals to look for in film-making.

Most of it just comes with time and experience, seriously. There are some bits of knowledge that can't be communicated with words.

meant for

Don't have a GF currently, last one I had was sort of similar. I enjoyed it because it made me feel smart and I am pretty sure she was too but maybe just wanted to make me feel good about myself. Who knows. Saying that, there is the issue of nuance and the possibility that she is vapid. Up to you to judge / decide what's best.

From experience I've found that women are attracted to men who (from their perspective) know things.

While I find it exhausting to listen to myself rant about the finer details of a single subject, for some reason women find it enchanting when you're knowledge and passionate about a subject.

Mine now is about to finish up a Master's in Anthropology and I don't know why she even likes me, but she listens to all the stupid shit I have to say about art.

She's pretending to not understand so you both have something to talk about. I do this everytime so people I'm talking to feel smart while explaining things they understand and associate our conversations with this good feeling.

It's not a secret for me, many people call me stupid behind my back because of this, just like this user. But whatever. Some of these people can be useful in the future.
