I really don't understand why everyone is freaking out about Liet Kynes. He has such a minor role in the book he just gives an idea of ecological transformation on Arrakis and just chastises everyone who doesn't immediately pick up on the culture. He really doesn't play any major role in plot and he just goes away once his arc is done.
