I always thought of this as a comeback movie for Tarantino and the thing that saved him from being a relic of the 90's. He released Jackie Brown in '97 then fucked around with an acting career and sort of fizzled out of "rising voice of Gen X" and into "The Pulp Fiction Guy" as far as his place in pop culture went. The cool indie crime flick sheen that his brand had had run its course so he released a 4 hour samurai revenge western with a female lead, it's stepping up to the plate in a way few directors have done

Both are great. The style/pacing change between volumes 1 and 2 is a bit jarring but serves a purpose. My personal favorite is 1 because I think it's more fun to watch, though 2 has a few moments that are half as flashy but twice as kino. It also helps if you like anime.

I think 1 is flashy and cool but overall just 'okay'
Vol 2 catered to my tastes way more. I love the tragic ending and how they turn what was seemingly a cut and dry black and white revenge story into a drama. She's forced to kill Bill because she already came this far to do it. She can't let the blood on her hands go to waste even if deep down she really does still love Bill and wants him to live.
Bud is one of my favourite movie villains and my favourite character of the two movies
FREEZE MOMMY! would have been the movie twist of the century if part 1 hadn't spoiled it
Music was on point. Carradine is great in this movie.
Fight scenes weren't as good as part 1 but they also didn't drag as much. It made up for the lack of fights by including more tense and dramatic moments like the scene where Bud buries her alive which I found to be twice as impactful and engaging as any fight scene in the two movies
