Gay characters, racial minority characters, and to a lesser extent female characters are only there for woke points like you said. You don't need to explain a character is straight, people just are by default. So for a character to be gay, you need to go out of your way to mention it and it's unlikely that it has any relevance to the plot. I mean, why would it be relevant unless homosexuality was a major part of the story? It's just forced it's impossible to be immersed in a story with such characters.
