its over the top as fuck, its also a massive scifi and fantasy setting so even if you dont like all of it there is usually something appeal to you
for example I love the concept of chaos and the idea of sci fi tech vs demons and hell (i also love DOOM and Event Horizon for these themes) and 40k probably does this particular theme better than any setting by far. thats me though, you might really be into the big badass look of space marines, or have a hard on for the facist imperium or anime looking eldar or commie mecha tau. Theres a lot of tastes appealed to in 40k
it also helps that all other big sci fi/fantasy franchises are dead/shitting the bed, but 40k appears to be stronger and more popular than ever and actually at the beginning of its larger lifecycle as a franchise.
