Is remembering how to navigate based on memorisation and landmarks a lost gamer skill?
Is remembering how to navigate based on memorisation and landmarks a lost gamer skill?
Yes but its more to do with falling g in western populations
This is a bad example though. No matter how good you are at navigating Skyrim’s quest design is literally impossible to navigate without the markers. Blame the designers for this one.
unless youve never used a gps youre a hypocrite
also television and film
Also to be fair game worlds used to be a bit smaller back then. Also wrong board, bro.
how ironic...
I know GTA 3, vc and sa maps like the back of my hand. 4 & 5 I have no clue. All bland an no landmarks.
This is Yas Forums
It is when your world is 90% padding.
Hot take: ammo and ammo limits are a pointless, archaic mechanics that should be scrapped from 99% of shooters
Forcing the player to scrounge for a finite resource is a method of artificially expanding 'gameplay', and the entire concept is bloated, pointless and boring
>the game wouldn't be challenging if you couldn't run out of ammo
Then it's a bad game. The variations in difficulty in any FPS that gives you a variety of different guns should come from damage, accuracy, magazine size and reload speed, in that order. That's what should force the player to choose this weapon and not that one, not simply making it so the player can't do something because the developers didn't think to put a box of this particular finite resource here instead of over there.
When was the last time a game was improved by forcing you to stop having fun to go find ammo? Why is it there in the first place?
>Because it's what the other games do
Is that really a good excuse, for anything?
Really?
>When was the last time a game was improved by forcing you to stop having fun to go find ammo?
but people love resident evil
i bet u mod games to be easier
Pathologic
The fact that youknow that you have to make every shot count is great and makes you very hesitant to engage in combat. Also, bullets are so valuable that it might be better to just sell them.
Idiotic opinion. Resource management under pressure is fun. Weapons without ammo ruin immersion.

Games more focused on survival that make ammo scarce would be ruined if you did that. And in action fps games you'd just end up using the best weapon all the time, why the fuck would you ever switch to an assault rifle when your bazooka has unlimited ammo? I guess you could take the fistful of frags approach and have reload times limit powerful weapons, but then players are just gonna sit in the corner reloading their shit all the time.
You can always play Megaman
why not just have an infinitely high fire rate and infinitely high damage and an infinitely adjustable sight and also aim bot and 100 ms full health regen and wall hacks? haha what are you saying that I have pooor visual-spatial processing and a week internal clock and motor skills what? hahahaha
More like is writing good quests and designing interesting, concise worlds a lost skill
This. 90% of the Skyrim map is so uninspired and devoid of content how are you supposed to even be able to navigate shit without the markers?
I'd argue it's not that bad actually, there are usually plenty of landmarks around the place and if you dropped me into a completely random part of the world I could probably tell you approximately where I am. The problem is less with world design (in Skyrim's case anyway), but instead with quest design. A world you can navigate is pretty worthless if the quest gives you nothing to go off of, no directions or anything.
Also another problem with no quest markers is that character move around. In Morrowind for example characters usually stand still or maybe walk around a small area, they don't go in and out of buildings and whatnot so it's easier to find them.
I can beat every single New Vegas quest without looking at the map or the objectives.
Skyrim is a fucking shit game so it’s not surprising
Literally the only semi-decent western developer left is Rockstar. Every other western developer is focused on making a “cinematic experience” OR their game is completely cucked with Jewish leftist propaganda.
>rockstar
Don't forget to buy more cars in GTA online goy!
Anyway there are plenty of decent western devs, it's just that they're mostly small studios or indie devs. The big players all aim for the mainstream audience and so they make dumb trash with microtransactions because despite how much people complain about them online, fuckloads of people still buy them.
The online portion of rockstar games is shit and anyone who plays it is sub 80 IQ. RDR2 single player was pure kino though.
95% of Small western dev releases are walking simulators that are loose allegories for the directors struggle of learning how to dilate properly
t. fallout shit vegas ape
Every single fallout game is shit. I’m a Japanese game chad.
>Every other western developer is focused on making a “cinematic experience” OR their game is completely cucked with Jewish leftist propaganda.
and what the actual fuck does that have to do with Skyrim being a shitty game?
GTA V's map is all landmark, every part of the map is memorable except the boring suburbs in LS
>Yas Forums - Television & Film
beg your pardon, it's usually newvegas zoomers seethe about Skyrim (for some strange reason)
Fallout is shit because Bethesda has made exactly 0 good games.
Sorry, Skyrim*
>Forcing the player to scrounge for a finite resource is a method of artificially expanding 'gameplay',
video games are completely artificial wtf

GTA V and RDR2 were utter shit so no.
95% of any industry if always dogshit, it's just that it gets forgotten and only the significant things are remembered. 95% of japanese games are gacha garbage, but people only talk about shit like Nier and From softworks games.
Morrowind was good and Oblivion is enjoyable simply for how silly it is.
reminder that skyrim is peak iq-enjoyment.
only normies hate on skyrim.
Japan has a much better track record. Nintendo alone has more quality titles under its belt than every single western developer combined.
>Morrowind was good
The only good part about it was the fact alchemy is busted so you can just cheat and become overpowered with ease. Everything else sucks.
It's also a lost skill IRL as well. People today are unable to get anywhere with a car without using a GPS.
Too bad the gameplay is shit and the "story" or "lore" is only good if you're a 95 IQ pseud that has literally never read a book outside of the required reading course for high school.
>Rockstar.
>Every other western developer is focused on making a “cinematic experience”
Lad...
How do I know you're a European or some other meme-worlder
lol
>Fallout 1 and 2 show things are bad, but signs of things building, and places even have mostly new cities and resources
>Bethesda Fallout suddenly makes everything look like the bombs dropped literally yesterday despite over a hundred years passing
>people living in broken down debris
>still fucking skeletons that no one seems to give a shit about moving
the lore was banged out by one guy hopped up on amphetamines locked in a motel room for three days. it is pure genius.
>skeletons that no one seems to give a shit about moving
Bro you want to be haunted?
agreed. half of most games is a walking simulator looking in bodies for ammo. utter shit gameplay.
Remember when you had to read the quest text in wow to figure out what to do yea thous where the (shit) times.
Absolutely pleb tier take.
>wow
sorry i dont play shit games
not to me it isnt. I turn off that markers, maps and radar shit off straight away and enjoy the challenge of just figuring out where I am and need to go.
I don't get why we can't go back. Walking through endless fields or wasteland for 10 mins until you reach an objective isn't that fun or immersive. I'd rather have a smaller, functional world
Morrowind was trash in nearly every regard and you don't have a single argument suggesting otherwise. Cope.
Depends on game. Something like Resident Evil only works solely because of its resource management gameplay. I agree on the front most video games suffer from sacred cows however.
>(shit) times.
mostly thanks to shit questlog window and how small and tucked away it is
