While you're not wrong, Jefferson himself doesn't really hit his stride till his second season. His acting is so bad in his first season it sounds like he's trying to to laugh every time he opens his mouth. He's also extremely generic that season.

The funny thing was, that the familiy was always depicted as trashy, but looking at their big house I would say they are upper-middle class. Not poor or white trash etc. Some stuff is dated, such as Al working at a shoe strore in a mall (do malls exist anymore?) or the fashion, but I would really like to live in that time period. Al is potrayed as a born loser of sorts, but looking at what he created (Big house, familiy with two children etc.) he is actually quite successful.
