HEY YOU

Post a film about alien invasion. It doesn't have to be your favourite or even great. Say something about it when you post.

I'm not even a borger but Independence Day is just the best made Ayy invasion movie. Just flawless execution for what it sets out to do.
Honourable mention for WotW because the tripods are fucking sexy, but the movie is a clusterfuck and the few scenes of kino destruction porn can't make up for it.

Now that I think about it, are there any movies that show Earth under Alien occupation?
Like, at all? I can't think of any.

Cowboys vs Aliens

Pic related isn't the best alien invasion film but i like how small scale boots on the ground combat it is. Very intense film

V

Series, pretty brilliant stuff. It's called just V.

Link? The name is, well, hard to search

search "V TV series" on Google and it's the first result

The 2009 or 1983 one?

good question lol, i wasn't the guy you were replying to I just took a guess after i searched up the series. I'd say they are referring to the 1983 one as it has better reviews

This is one of their leaders. She's... cold-blooded.

I really liked the alien design.

Yes, I meant the based 80's one. I know nothing of the new version.

My favourite alien invasion trope is the Veil Theory from the Fifth Head of Cerberus by Gene Wolfe. It's about shape-shifting aliens (local) who may or may not have become everyone and nobody knows because part of the shifting includes not knowing one's own origins. Pretty striking novel if I say so myself, though more like 3 novellas, of which the second part is as fascinating as it is frustrating as it's all about tribal aliens and nothing makes much sense.

Couldn't find a good cover for that book. They're all shitty.

THEY HAVE ALREADY TAKEN HOLD OF OUR NUMBERS! LOOK AT THIS SHIT:

>1
>2
>3
>4
>5
>6
>7
>8
>9
All of them are fucking mudslimes! What the fuck? When did that happen?

Could be worse, though, Italians could have taken over our entire alphabet, amirite, niggas.

OH SHIT

This is exactly how my testicles would look like if they decided to revolt against me and my many fappings.

The original alien film had an invasion theme. For a while, the alien was supposed to kill Ripley. Then head towards Earth. Once some Earth radio person asks the ship about its status, the alien imitates Ripley's voice perfectly, saying everything is fine.

That may sound silly to us now, but without future films, this would have implied the entity is way more than some dumb space brute, which it gradually became with every iteration of that franchise.

>basically space bugs in Aliens
>basically a rabid dog in 3
>basically a stupid animal in 4
>basically cannon fodder in 5
>basically whatever you want in 6

The original concept had the aliens be from a highly advanced civilisation with their own language and culture, but it all got cut down. And we know what happened to the space jockeys.

>this entire franchise is about rape in EVERY possible way
>franchise about rape rapes itself
>the circle is complete

based and redpilled

I'm replaying Half-Life 2 lately.

>mfw I utterly forgot what gameplay was
>mfw I haven't enjoyed playing an FPS game this much in years
>mfw nobody knows how to make games like this anymore

Absolutely blew my mind and it's not even my first time playing. I forgot so much.

Any way to play Alyx without the VR stuff?

Scholarly gentleman detected.

HL2 was the fucking GOAT
Alyx was fucking fantastic too, but as far as no VR goes ehh, it's tricky.
Like, there's a way but it sucks. You can play it in HL2 mode, with HL2 guns, and proper wasd movement, but you don't have hands, so you have to noclip through doors and such and most sequences are broken because of it and you just can't do them.
Generally, it's a different experience, you can't just play it on a screen and enjoy it.. It's like listening to a movie on the radio.
My suggestion is do what I did, don't pay up for a headset and shit just for this, borrow it from a friend who has one or something, play through it and that's about it. It's worth playing through until once, just for the experience. It doesn't have deathmatch or something similar, until now, at least to add replayability though.

Playing the "update" version. Maybe a bad idea because Valve is going to release their own updated version of HL2 later this year.

Might just play another round. Endless fun, this game.

And that's WHILE hating on the Eastern European esthetics, so that's saying something.

I guess I will wait until I have money to spend on this. Until then, I'm replaying the best games I have. Until I make money, resume civilisation.

Games I've replayed:
>BioShock
>BioShock 2
>DLC for BS2, Minerva's Den
>BioShock Infinite
>DLC for it, both episodes
>PainKiller, third time replaying this game in its entirety, with cheats on
>Eufloria

I need more walking simulators, I played What Remains of Edith Finch, and it was like the perfect mix of novel/cinema/video game, like the story is told by you exploring the environment. It was, dare I say, kino.

The Arrival (1996) starring Charlie Sheen
trailer: youtube.com/watch?v=1Wj3xn-8y0Q

I remember it being a bit paranoid.. And the ayyliens have weird feet.

This is another great alien invasion novel. I know there's a series about it, which kinda spoils the whole thing in part, but I don't think a series can ever live up to the book.

Especially the end.

Heartily recommend. It's fairly short, and it's good stuff. I'll continue recommend alien invasion literature if anyone's interested.

I saw this. Possibly the closest thing to a Half-Life film, seeing as Sheen looks the part.

Due to recent events, I can only see this film as "a child molestor is our last hope against aliens; pray Gordon Freeman rapes them all in their intergalactic asses".

I like the way the game, HL2, does story by telling you fuck all about shit. I didn't even realise the aliens are draining the oceans the first time I played, because the sea level is lower than it should be, as ships are sandstuck and piers don't even reach the water anymore.

Now that's story-telling.

It's definitely not like Sheen raping little boys' anuses.

Ah, I've had bioshock 2 in my PC for like two years and I still can't be arsed to play it.
If you want walking sims, you should totally play the stanley parable if you haven't already. It's a short but really neat little thing.

It's fun

G-man now looks like a younger person who does a shitload of cocaine.

love the book. anyone that has consumed sci-fi since will be familiar with lots of the tropes that Clarke established though.

Kill yourself

Shit, I thought I was the only one who remembered that movie

The thing from another world (1951). The overlapping dialogue is very natural and must have been hell to write and act out.

It's just that one particular angle. He looks eeriely similar to his old model normally.

Falling Skies on TNT had that Half Life 2 feel. Also Colony with Josh Holloway on USA.

Exodus. Jews are always alien invaders.

'They live'. By John Carpenter.

Evolution. It's about alien microbes landing on Earth and then undergoing the process of evolution really really quickly so there's an entire alien ecosystem full of different creatures developing within a few days and the creatures start terrorizing the nearby town. Stars David Duchovny so it definitely has a bit of an X-files vibe going on. There's a lot of goofy stuff in it but the monsters definitely are a real threat since they kill people.

It's a good book. I found the ending somewhat horrifying in a cosmic-horror sort of way though.

Fucking kek.

To be fair, they ended up splitting that take on aliens between the xenomorph and the engineers. As much of a mess Prometheus was, I like the dynamic of the engineers and their out of control xenomorph bioweapon.

The Thing
The Colour out of Space

Does Phantasm count?

Captive State, but it’s very, very slow.

I still haven't seen the series. I loved the book in high school. That was the cover I had too.

I enjoyed this a lot. My only disappointment was the dumb reason for the invasion.

Fucking. Based.

>Ah, I've had bioshock 2 in my PC for like two years and I still can't be arsed to play it.
The beginning may not be that awesome, especially lookswise, but the gameplay makes up for it, and later levels are great. You get to do tower defense with traps and turrets, it's great.

BS2 is overlooked and underrated. It basically did many of the things BS3 did but gets zero credit for it.

Superpowered important female is your daughter, everyone counts on her to save them, she escorts you and protects you in one part of the game. Etc.

You should definitely play it. The remastered version crashes a LOT.

>If you want walking sims, you should totally play the stanley parable if you haven't already. It's a short but really neat little thing.
I'd love to, but I'm saving money for food right now. And bills. Endless bills. I had nothing but rice for 2 weeks, so now I don't buy anything easily, and I have many games I have never played.

>and must have been hell to write and act out.
They might have improvised a lot, which isn't that hard if everyone is doing the same thing.

Find the script and figure it out, user!

>Falling Skies
god I remember how bad that was
I do like the aliens but the nose dive that series took was sharper than I had feared

I knew BS2's twist already, luckily, or I'd be pretty mad at you.
Regardless, just pirate it, bro. Of course you got no money with that mindset. I haven't payed for a movie or game since 2013.

>I found the ending somewhat horrifying in a cosmic-horror sort of way though.
Yes. I read the book because I heard Evangelion had drawn inspiration from it. You should definitely watch the series then The End of Evangelion (and skip the birth of it, as it's a needless summary of the series, which makes zero sense if you haven't watched it already, and is nothing new if you have, so I don't know who the fuck this is for). Expect two special final episodes for the series, and know that the movie more than makes up for it.

It's one of the most mindblowing endings I have ever seen.

>the dumb reason for the invasion.
What was it again?

Way ahead of you. Already seen all of of that buddy.

Jesus Christ...

A good thread. I didn't think this happened anymore around here. Thank you guys, I love you.

>I knew BS2's twist already, luckily, or I'd be pretty mad at you.
It's not a twist though, is it? Your daughter telepathically tells you all that stuff very early on, or maybe I am wrong, but I did spoiler it!

I pay for all the games I play, though I torrent my movies. I had to choose, and I think Hollywood makes enough money to live on, while games are often made by companies that can't afford to be stolen from. Movies make their money when the film comes out, so by the time I torrent them, I don't feel guilty over stealing them. I'd feel bad if I played a game that wasn't in my neato Steam library.

>Way ahead of you. Already seen all of of that buddy.
Well, you ain't ahead of me if we have seen the same stuff.

Here's another suggestion, I doubt you've already read that one.

Yes. Aliens don’t have to come from space.

Meh, I feel how you feel about holywood for everything. AAA releases are backed by billion dollar corporations rivaling studios.
As for indies, like the stanley parable, well, it's more morally grey. Like, for example, while I enjoyed undertale I don't think Toby would fit more cash in his safe if he tried, but some other dev who isn't fuck you successful, sure could use my bucks.
