Sorta kino but the book was better
based
It's a divisive one. People who haven't read the original comic are split as to whether it was kino or boring and people who have read the comic are split between people who think it's one of the best adaptations ever and people who hate it because Snyder somehow adapted Watchmen almost frame for frame from the comic book and somehow managed to miss the entire fucking point of the comic. Personally I'm in the latter camp but it's only because I read the comic before seeing the film and it blew my little 12-year old mind - people who discover the comic after watching the movie are way more forgiving towards it.
Why did the sex scene go on for so fucking long
What was the main point of the comics?
>somehow managed to miss the entire fucking point of the comic
I really don't understand this criticism. How did the film miss the point of the comic if it was adapted frame for frame?
That the entire superhero concept is shit and if they were real they'd all be mentally-ill basket cases with leather fetishes who'd likely fuck up the entire world. They're also not cool.
That's kinda the mystery of it. For me it's like reading Watchmen through someone else's eyes - in this case Zack Snyder's - and it's clear that they're seeing a completely different thing in the text. Honestly it kinda soured me on all of Snyder's work, the guy's a shallow dipshit.
It is style over substance, kind of like Joker but more stylish and with a better script.
It definitely looks very pleasing to the eyes.
That superheroes can't save the world because they are too naive and can't see the big picture.
Veidt is the real hero of the movie. Shame they did to him in the series
I thought Rorschach was the main hero.
Yeah it's a confusing criticism because a lot of people say it missed the point of the original comic but then when you ask them what the actual point was you'll get a dozen different answers and most of those answers don't really contradict anything in the film. It's hard to explain without going into a lot of detail but almost every little Zack Snyder flourish and most of the stuff he changed actually works against the film and as a result even though it's mostly following the same script as the comic it ends up (seemingly inadvertently) telling a very different story.
None of them are heroes that's the fucking point. If you liked Rorschach and thought he was cool then the movie is an absolute failure at being Watchmen.
All I can ever remember is that when I saw it in theaters during the sex scene with "Hallelujah" in the background there were some teenage girls a few rows back laughing uncontrollably
And that's pretty much it, I like both movies but I've only seen them twice and the second viewing really shows all the flaws and the visuals are the only remarkable thing about them
Do yourself a favor OP and find the original comic. It's only 1 volume and it can be found practically anywhere. It's basically a better version of the movie. People who watched the movie first tend to appreciate it more than the people who came to the comic first I find.
It's so sad Steve Jobs died
Which is why it's a failure. The comic was surprisingly deep and complex and they gave it to Zack Snyder who's skillset consists of just making cool visuals. Meanwhile the comic was written by a madman at the peak of his powers before he completely lost his fucking mind and started believing in magic and worshiping Roman snake-gods.
Yeah I'ma read it on readcomicsonline
I liked the Comedian because he had a mustache and smoked cigars
Snyder's best
It's the only one I'd recommend finding a physical copy of. There's one chapter where the entire issue is symmetrical and the effect doesn't work if you read it online. The comic uses a lot of weird tricks that you won't even notice the first time - it's kinda insane.
I liked Rorschach and thought he was cool but I know he's a shitty person
If you read the comic it's clear that he's a deranged psycopath.
I have read the comic, I read it before I saw the movie. I still enjoy him as a character though
Alright, I'll probably order it then. Is the show a good watch? Tv seems pretty divided on it
Literally just watch the action scenes. In the book all the fights are very basic and very realistic because it's a fucking deconstruction of superheroes. In the movie the fights are literally just superhero fights.
I just like the aesthetics of the movie
I've read the comic and yeah Snyder just didn't give a shit and honestly I don't know if he didn't get the story and characters or if he is just an egotistic maniac who doesn't give a shit about the source material, imo it's the latter, he also twisted the Dark Knight Returns and made it a biblical shitstorm in Batman V Superman.
Yeah the intro with the Bob Marley Song is kino aesthetics
I got bored by the show but it had some okay parts. You can read the first few chapters of Watchmen online if you want but as the book goes on there's some tricks you'll miss if you read it digitally (chapter 5 from memory won't work for instance)
holy shit this, i love the intro of the movie so much
but it's bob dylan not marley
Nah he's actually dyslexic. No, really look it up I'm completely serious. Basically he read Watchmen and just saw the pictures which explains a lot.
There are only 2 types of people who like this film
1. People who haven't read the graphic novel
or
2. People who haven't read the graphic novel
Snyder himself falls in the second category.
But kino. Ozy throwing comedian around is awesome
Yeah but that opening scene fucks up the entire mystery of the film and also sets up the tone wrong. The comic doesn't have any fight scenes until nearly halfway through - the movie starts off with one which then gives off the impression that it's going to be an action movie but then it just starts adapting Watchmen.
Also you can tell it's Ozy which fucks up the entire mystery of who killed the comedian which fucks the entire premise if you haven't read or seen the film. Plus it's got Snyder's patented slow-mo and ramping and has 2 human characters fighting in a way that implies they have super strength. It fucks the entire movie.
the only good movie in a long while
tldr lol
You don't know the first time. And it's nice it doesn't end with action. Just a sweet little fight and a kino speech in comic film history
Simple deduction. In the comic you don't see who kills the comedian other than their hands. In the movie you can tell it's a dude, you can see their body-type and shape and it can only be Ozymandias out of all the characters in the film. A huge part of Watchmen's appeal is the twist of Adrian being the villain (which really comes out of nowhere in the comic) and the movie fucks it up before the titles even come up.
I thought the whole point of Rorshach was that you saw what you wanted in him, hence him being called rorshach
Who the hell is Steve Jobs?
He used to work at Nintendo.
fpbp. Get the comic OP it does most of the shit better.
Perfect adaptation EXCEPT for the switcharoo regarding the squid, which ruined everything. So, mixed feelings. I guess Ozy could have been a bit more intimidating, but that's my only other complaint.

You haven't read the comic you just read the Wikipedia page and know that you're just regurgitating the mindless opinion you heard someone else say.
>Snyder focused too much on the fight scenes!
All those fight scenes are in the comic.
>You're not supposed to like Rorschach!
His main character flaw is him treating his friends like shit while he's falling for every red herrings. He gets called out on this after the prison riot and apologizes for his behavior which leads to him getting his shit together and they all actually solve the mystery. If you were not supposed to like him that character development wouldn't be there, or all the attention put to making him stand out and the couple of cool moments like the SWAT raid or his entire stint in prison.
Such a brainlet opinion that keeps spreading around here.
no they aren't, the whole heroic death of the comedian was total headcanon, and every other snyderfight involves them actually having super strength, which they don't
also the scene where the owlshit fights in prison was extended for no reason
>His main character flaw is him treating his friends like shit
His main character flaw is being a schizo fascist.
I haven't been keeping up with modern shit, is the underground Graphic Novel scene still going strong or has it been overrun by capeshitter fans trying to make the next big thing?
The guy that played Rorschach was amazing. I cant hear any other voice in my head but his when I re-read the comic
>a deranged psychopath
>the only one willing to try and solve the Comedian's death
>the one that convinces everyone else to try and stop Ozy
>the only one that refuses Ozy's monstrous plan
>a deranged psychopath
Rorschach did nothing wrong
No, its terrible. It's an unneeded sequel that has shitty characters and a shitty premise. Ignore it because it doesnt exist
Fucking plebe. What Snyderfags have to realize is that he sees pretty pictures and nothing else. He is better off directing trailers, music videos, commercials, and live photos (think gifs and webms). He is absolutely abysmal at storytelling which he knows nothing about. The fact that every single one of his films has like three to seven different cuts and you cucks always defend him by saying "That's because you only saw the theatrical version The Ultimate Cut is better" or "WB screwed him! Release the Snyder Cut!" highlights why he fails as a filmmaker.
>Filmmaking is storytelling
>Every scene must be considered
>Be economical with no redundancies. You don't just have a money budget, but a budget for the audience's time and patience.
>Film only what you must
>Your first scenes and introduction of the characters sets the tone for the rest of the story and how the audience perceives him
A good filmmaker shouldn't need 7 different cuts, hours of redundant scenes, and would plan for the edits.
At least Michael Bay nails off all of this, manages to edit his movies without having tonal and pacing issues and is unpretentious about who he is.
Isn’t zack being a self proclaimed objectivist make him the least qualified person to make a watchmen film
Based as fuck. Yas Forums BTFO.
