Troy was trash. It even rhymes.

its not a good ancient greece movie.
if you knew anything about ancient greece or Iliad, you'd know why.

enjoyable fight between Hector and Achilles. Thats it.

WRONG

I'm studying ancient Greek history. While I do like things to be historically accurate. I understand why hollywood makes the decisions it does and can separate my autism about history for a few hours to watch a fun movie. Dilate faggot

>im studying greek history
reading wikipedia doesn't count.
>dilate
expected npc response

Yeah it was good. Watched it a week ago.

>good ancient greek
*Put defending army outside the city wall*
Bravo, Dabid.

historical movies are a guaranteed flop nowadays unless its some sort of capeshit

It's called a sally and they did it in the poem

>Make a movie about the Iliad
>Take all the Gods out of it

That's a big yikes for me

Troy wasnt true to the myth but it was true to the spirit of the times

Troy touched on the themes of honour and legacy with lines like

"thats why no one will remember your name"

I'm going to school for it. You probably work in fast food and will for the rest of your life.

nope nice try lmao
stop reading wikipedia. its pathetic

The world you are looking for is Kleos which indeed a very deep and important theme in the Illiad. I agree that the movie did a great job of communicating this aspect.

jason and the argonauts was better than this crap

do you have a source for what was spirit of the times?
its not in the iliad.

>being proud of studying greek history
gay.

The only good part of the movie was the middle. The beginning is boring and ending sucks. Achilles dying was so underwhelming.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kleos

You are retarded, but now educated

>wikipedia
OOF

You're going to school for a classics degree and you're expecting the other guy to end up in food service?

Riiight. Enjoy teaching middle school kids for the rest of your life. I like history too, bro

I'm actually planning on teaching highschool. It can really make a difference in kids lives. Having a good teacher helps when a lot of kids arent sure about their place in the world.

Not that user but I unironically teach at a high school. It's a highly enjoyable career and in my country pays well. He could do a lot worse.

user BTFO

Shitty movie, shitty pacing
300 is embellishment incarnate but at least it's entertaining

Troy sucks. They removed the Gods from the Illiad. That's like removing Gandalf, Saruman and Sauron from Lord of the Rings.

Troy sucks. They removed the Gods from the Illiad. That's like removing Dumbledore, McGonagall and Voldemort from Harry Potter

Troy and Alexander buried the epic american historical genre, complete shit with the hollow story and painfully underdeveloped characters, even some battles felt underwhelming

troy dc is the top 20 film of the century. epic scale, grand battles, chads and virgins, swank soundtrack, memorable quotes, fantastic scenery... got it all!

>It can really make a difference in kids lives
>teaching highschool

Yeah what dont you understand?

Jacob Smith is relentlessly handsome.

user reading enough books will literally make you just as qualified as someone with an undergraduate degree in history

Bana, Pitt and Bloom are also relentlessly handsome.

It’s literal garbage, esp after the Trojan horse part

The part where history is a serious subject with a bearing on kids lives and not an introduction to a hobby?
The part where an amateur historian tries to dab on people by accusing them of working in food service?

But Troy was made in a different time right

I too studied Greek history and took 4 semesters of Ancient Greek in college. When I realized what a waste of time that was, I went to law school.

>Waste of time
>Went to law school

Troy is also a meme
Pretty much this

Attached: lel.gif (500x206, 3.2M)

Movies like Troy, Gladiator (another meme movie) and Hacksons evisceration of LOTR (Return Of The King is literally Meme: The Movie even though Fellowship and Towers are kino) was the capeshit of its day.

>Why is troy the only good ancient greek movie
BUT YOU DREAM

>They removed the Gods from the Illiad.

Well yeah, they didn’t make it rated R but they didn’t want to make a literal children’s movie either

YOUR SIMPLICITY

>NOOOOOOOOO!! NOT MY HECKIN FICTIONRINO GREEKERINO!!!

Then maybe they should have just left the Illiad the fuck alone and not make a stupid movie butchering the source because douchebag directors and screenwriters always have to shoehorn their ego and "vision" into it thinking they know better than literal myths.
See also why ROTK is a self-indulgent, bloated, confused mess.

>butchering the source
It’s one thing when people get angry about something recent but it’s the illiad dude

>NOOOOOOO!!! NOT THE HECKIN ZEUSERINO AND ATHENARINO!!!!!

I mean it's not a waste of time if I want to teach history? Like if you wanted to become a lawyer why did you even study greek history in school

Im not even mad. I still like Troy because its such a meme. But I still dont get why they even made it besides cashing on the le ebin CGI battle shitfest fad TTT and ROTK kickstarded a few years prior.

Bro are you really going to be so autistic about this when like even the ancient Greeks themselves would have various forms of the myths and changed shit themselves over time?

Troy and Alexander are underrated compared to 300 (based of the graphic novel). 300 has a far lasting impact on flims set in that period.

LONG ENDED, WHEN YOU TOOK TO SNEEDPOSTING AND CUNNY THREADS

i admit all versions of alexander and koh suck hairy, sweaty balls BUT director's cut of Troy fucking rules. gladiator is merely average. alexander probably killed the genre for good. snyder's 300 was the swan song.

No I am not autistic about this. People always seem autistically obsessed by pointing out I am nitpicking and then never quit bothering me. Its like some people on this are obsessed with winning arguments on the Internet.
But lol though. I didnt know retconning existed in ancient Greece. But apparently you know better of course. The only thing a quick google search gives me is that the Achilles heel thing is something they made up centuries after the Illiad and Odyssey were first written down by Homer.
You relativists and deconstructionists crack me up. Just like the deconstructionist meme movie Troy cracks me up.

btw speaking of historical epics, are there any from china, korea or japan worth watching? i heard good things about woo's red cliff. or is it poccped?

Hero is pretty good chinese story. It's historical, as in it tells the story of the first Emperor of China, but it's very romanticized, like with people jumping meters in the air and slowly dashing towards each other shit.
