Nah the musical is pretty good and really easy to adapt on the big screen.
They should've just hired stage actors who can actually sing.
Javert and Cosette were especially insulting.
Now I didn't mind Hugh Jackman as Valjean or Anne as Fantine.
Eponine was really good too being played by the stage singer.
my name is Joj Valjeaj!
Why did people obsess over this scene? His singing is great.
why the fuck marius go with cosette and not eponine??
AND I'M JAVERT
AND IM JOJVERT
Beetlejuice is pretty decent as a recent example
man, fantine was the worst. i mean i dont think I even know what the others sounded like because i noped the fuck out of there after dreamed a dream
I've barely watched any musicals, but I did happen to get into Wagner a while back.
I unironically started crying a bit at the end of The Valkyrie when Wotan, against his will, is forced to strip his favourite daughter Brunnhilde of her godhood and exile her from Valhalla. As god of contracts, he had to punish her, lest he break an oath himself and lose all legitimacy. Wagner is just something completely different from the regular sort of italian opera that doesn't interest me nearly as much.
Retard
>lest he break an oath himself and lose all legitimacy
You realize Odins power was breaking oaths
He could bind others to theirs but he could and did break any oath he took
Not in Wagner.
His whole dilemma is that he wants the Ring but can't do it because he has gained all his powert through oaths, and now has made so many he can't try to get the Ring without breaking one and losing his stand as King of the Gods.
Fantine being bad wouldn't really ruin the play or musical.
She only has like 1 big solo before being written out.
I didn't really mind her in this movie I thought she was well acted at least.
Now Javert that was a real travesty.
seen les mis stage show in newcastle a few months ago, by far my fav
chitty chitty bang bang was good though, especially me ol' bamboo
Miss Saigon
t. yellow fever
who here /almostcries/ during the jean valjean theme when the piano starts it up
I know they're just high schoolers but this is real les mis cringe

Quite right. Wotan is eventually trapped by his own oaths, oaths he'd made in his striving for power. They force him to initially give up Freya, force him to give up the Ring, force him to give up Brünnhilde and eventually destroy his child Siegmund. Even without the ring he is cursed by his desire for power, and eventually grows tired of it, wishing for the end of the gods and Valhalla.
Oh let the kids have their fun come on
No need to name the video like that, I'm sure they must've been nervous
That's an interesting take on the character considering in all historical representations he was basically one step of nobility up from Loki and that made him the king of the aesir
I know but when you have good stuff like this you really have to wonder why a they'd do a play like Les Mis without any real talent.
Valjeans death gets me like that. I did like how they put the Bishop in the movie version as well.
youtube.com
cannibal the musical is the only good musical
The Ring Cycle is very much about the corrupting influence of power, and how that constant striving for it will inevitably lead to ruin. The curse of the ring, uttered by Alberich, says that any man who wields its power must also give up love, as Wotan is forced to do to maintain HIS power, even when he doesn't have the ring.
The Bishop is played by Colm Wilkinson who used to do Valjean in the 80s.
Rocky Horror or Little Shop of Horrors
over rated valjean
AND IM JAVERT
That could be a fair take. I haven't heard many.
I saw the show a few months ago and could barely keep it together
Second half does drag a bit though after the barricades
My fair lady
I really like watching High School editions of Les Mis.
Some of them are really kino.
the actresses were qt as fuck too

*dabs on Crowe*
No.
I thought the Fantine was a bit fat, maybe we saw a different version
It's rare for me to say this, but I think casting a black guy for Javert really worked. The 25th anniversary cast is my favourite, Alfie Boe blows all the other Valjeans away with his voice
youtube.com
bruh
I hated the BBC version from last year, the black Javert was shit, and I felt McNulty had too much edge and couldn't pull off the inner goodness of jean valjean even when he's a degenerate prisoner.
reminder that Eponine is the undisputed best girl
youtube.com
tfw you will never be master of the house
>McNulty
>playing a character of virtue
Yeah his natural degenerate vibes are just too strong for that sort of role.
Of course.
>Movie version
>Cosette looks like she has mild downs
>Marius chooses her over Eponine
YOURE NO ONE
Musical adaptations are and always will be complete gentrification and plebification of great works of art into mediocre puddles of consumerist media. Les Mis is egregious enough but no they couldn’t stop there, they had to do it to someone like Alexander Hamilton too, who as an 18th century man modern Americans couldn’t even begin to understand, nor really want to as seen by the musical’s success.
Just rip the band aid off and make a musical about the Holocaust already, as that is the natural progression and fate of this genre, just as people like Spielberg himself made the holocaust into something that could be consumed and swallowed without too much difficulty
Some US High Schools put way too much money into their Drama departments.
