Coomar Bergman called this film the best examination of female psyche that he had seen.

when will you share some movies in ddl

Indeed. I failed to catch all the numbers and felt bad afterwards

Watched Mamet's House of Games tonight. Fucking hated it, and not in a good way. Glengarry Glen Ross was so great, but here he desperately needed a real director to tell him to let the actors speak like human beings instead of reciting their oh-so-perfectly-crafted-yet-painfully-unsubtle lines *exactly* how he thought he wanted to hear them. It's so mechanical and jarring it makes obvious all the twists and ambiguity it wants to ape from classic heist and con flicks, which, without the ability to surprise, are completely pointless. It's also often shot too cleanly, but that's more a matter of taste.

His own Persona would fit the bill bettet imo.

>Vive L'Amour
>Goodbye Dragon inn
>Days
>Rebels of the Neon God
>Stray Dogs
which should i watch first my niggas. also anybody got a magnet link to The Hole or The River

Watch them in chronological order.

i need to find a torrent for the two i posted & what time is it there? then. two of those of early in his work

They're on rutracker you fucking pleb. I don't have a private tracker either but come on.

I can tell from your fucking posts that you're going to get pleb-filtered by Stray Dogs. Just give it the fuck up.

based thank you for being nice to me : )
also based even though you were mean to me : )
cringe for taking Yas Forums so seriously, kill yourself

Proto Wes Anderson. Why watch it instead of the real thing?

Attached: screen-shot-2011-07-08-at-5-20-18-am[1].jpg (1440x768, 107.09K)

Greenaway is a master. Anderson is mediocre.

they're both very different

Sacha Vierny is a master, Greenway is the ass that confuses meaningless structuralist exercises with smart films.

just saw the passion of joan of arc for the first time. i could barely get through it. theres people on reddit saying it's their favourite film ever etc that should have tipped me off.

Yes he is. Greenaway too, those structuralist exercises are fun and it's not like every film of his is a structuralist exercise.

Imagine being filtered by reddit

who's your letterboxd crush?

Sally Jane

She's beautiful. Next Brigitte Bardot.

You barely got through it?

Correct. Now go and watch the Bresson's masterpiece. Then you can check out Rivette's version. Dreyer's version is mediocre theater.

The holy mountain?

What about it

Posted this as it's own thread but probably should have just gone here. I liked these both, what are some other good entry-level art movies?

Watch other Trier's films. It will give you more meta context for The House That Jack Built.

Recently saw this. Tarkovsky movies are very distinct. Why did the woman change her mind about selling her jewelry?

Only God Forgives

tried really hard to be surreal and shocking, the penguin of doom of films
watch it anyway though, see for yourself, it's still kinda entertaining

is it edgy enough for Yas Forums?

I don't really know if it will be something I like even tho I liked funky forest.
I will watch fitzcarraldo first anyway on my path to watch all of Herzog during quarantine

Is there any good Irish art house?

does this count?
youtube.com/watch?v=1gnZN4SEhjA

Which of his films would you say isn't a structuralist exercise, and still good?

That cover looks like ass

Has anyone watched instructions for a light and sound machine? Every time i make a thread about it no one responds it's even on Yas Forums's mid tier arthouse list.

All of them except for Tulse Luper, Drowning by Numbers and Goltzius. Those are structuralist exercises. ZOO i guess you could say is too. I haven't seen The Falls.
8 1/2 Women is just bad.

Nymphomaniac.

I don't care for Yorgos Lanthimos.

Yeah. There are better films by Tscherkassky.

Anyone seen Garrone's Pinocchio yet?

Dogman was my favourite film of 2018, watch it.

A poor man's THTJB

Attached: Disgust 3.jpg (604x603, 105.92K)

Dogman was fine. Not in any real hurry to watch Pinocchio.

What's some good exit level arthouse?
I've seen Landscape Suicide, would that fit the definition?

killing of a sacred deer didn't do much for me
the lobster is pretty fun
dogtooth is pure kino

meant for

>James Benning
more like James BORING LOL!

It's not even the most exit level Benning. Exit level arthouse (in terms of obscurity and lack of mass appeal) is perhaps Rousseau, Tahimik, Ogawa, Hurwitz, Adachi, etc

Can we all agree that The Lighthouse is pure kino

What was it about like what was the point?

>Rousseau
what's their first name?

I doubt that we can all agree on that but i thought it was great and i'm looking forward to his next film. Bigger budget, more expansive story and more action, i'm interested if he can manage it.

Dogtooth is just a Castle of Purity ripoff

I didn't think it was very good. I thought it was too straightforward to be properly surreal and was too silly to be a properly engaging horror film

The VVitch is better

It's cringe
Jean-Claude.

Has Baumbach ever actually made a good film?

I can't remember

didn't know that, will watch
