FUCK MYTHARC FAGS

Alright I guess I'll take that as a no.

Damn how come i never get help on this board? Is it the lack of whorish women, black people or sneed in the original post?

I liked it. If you have even a passing interest in superbatural shit its fun. The overarching story is shit but the nonster of the week stuff is good.

God damn right it is.

The first five seasons are, yes

Yes until they kiss and then there's no interest

Its just twin peaks for people with IQ under the 90 points

I watched the first two episodes recently and it was incomprehensibly shit. Fringe is a much better sci fi investigation show

Only the standalone cases. Mytharc is irrevocably shit

Unlike Twin Peaks it's actually still good after the first 16 episodes

The first five seasons are requisite kino. It has aged very well, the atmosphere is bar none for this niche, it has scares and the mytharc is intriguing within this frame, ayys are not a clear cut subject. Top 10 tv kino.

The first five seasons are great. The overarching story turns into a mess pretty early on, but there are still some good mytharc episodes up to and including season 3 -- because of how the show develops they don't culminate in anything good, but on their own terms they are still strong episodes. Same for the first movie. Many of the standalone episodes are great, though. Some of the strongest TV out there.

Why was CIA's new series so shite? It did everything wrong the X-Files didn't. So disappointing and waste of CIA's talent.

yes
kys

it jumped the shark in the very first scene when it showed aliens were real, completely nullifying the point of Scully’s character, completely dispelling any skepticism, and proving Mulder is going to be right all the time

Except it turns out it was a government con job and they use fake aliens to keep people from paying attention to their secret weapons projects, and Mulder actually stops believing in aliens in season 4

Fuck yeah user up until it moves away from Washington

Seasons 1-6 it's one of the best shows to ever grace television.
Season 7 is half dogshit and half brilliant.
Seasons 8/9 are a step down. You'll know by then if you give a fuck or not enough to continue.
Season 10 is pretty lousy, worst season imo.
Season 11 is pretty great, maybe the best season imo. Because it's written knowing it's the end of the series.

There's 2 types of episodes.
>Myth Arc
The overarching, connected story of an ongoing government conspiracy and extra terrestrial mythology. Accounts for about 1/3 of the show's episodes.
>Monster of the Week
Casual episode. Mulder and Scully investigate some strange happening in a small American town. Could be demons, could be aliens, could be some weird scientific abomination. Accounts for the other 2/3rds of episodes.

Myth stuff is good for the first 6 seasons, after that it's kind of resolved and they just force it. Monster of the Weeks are varying quality, but that's kind of what makes them special. You never know what you're going to get.

Retrospectively, it becomes clear that they were making up the alien shit as they went along, rather than having a full on plan for it. Which is why in my opinion, the monster of the week stuff holds up way better. Even in to the later, weaker seasons.

Here's the X-files pinball machine "wizard mode", aka the final stage of the game that you get to when you beat everything else.

yeah it's a great show just skip the mythology episodes

First couple of seasons is gold.

After that it gets rough for better or worst.

Don't listen to this faggot

this

Somehow I binged the entire series over the summer with my dad and can't remember a damn thing about it.

Early seasons were the best.

it ranges from campy fun to genuinely spoopy. i stopped with the movie, didn't seem like it was really going anywhere anymore by that point.

i mean i watched every episode when the show was first airing since you never knew if it was going to be a monster of the week or mythology episode. every time i've watched it since then though i've only watched the standalone episodes with maybe a couple myth episodes thrown in for good measure like musings of a cigarette smoking man (which is kind of a standalone myth episode).

the mythology arc, like others have said in the thread, starts off strong and is good until about the point when the first movie came out. then it goes completely off the rails and is not worth watching.

Except everything goes wrong after the first movie, not just the mytharc episodes. Creator wanted to end it after five seasons and they forced him to continue, and everything was rebooted including the main characters where every bit of character development was deleted and they returned to who they were in Season 1 Episode 1 minus any subtlety.

yes. best show of the 90's with Twin Peaks

false, Deep Space Nine was, followed by Frasier

this has to be one of the most uninformed and retarded posts on the subject.

sit-coms are a different breed

Absolutely not. I tried watching it a few months ago, got to season two before I decided to give up, there were 20 or so episodes in season one and only three were anywhere decent and only one was great. The episodes are just really boring with uninteresting mysteries, very unimaginative monsters and overall bland aesthetic. I think it's a product of its time. When x-files first aired it was the only show of its kind, monster of the week shows hadn't been done before so it was new and exciting. Since then it's been ripped off and done better by a multitude of different shows. Watching x-files now it just feels really bland and hard to get through most episodes.

>monster of the week shows hadn't been done before
The X-Files was praised because of the cast and the writing/directing. Episodic storytelling was the standard for TV back then, and even monsters had been done before.

The mythos is interesting tho, until it went to shit.
connor?
X-files literally has a "guide" of episodes worth watching. Personally, I did not see every episode and probably never will but the episodes I saw that were recommended were fantastic.

Also what said, X-files just has a certain level of atmosphere and directing that you just don't see many shows have. Even if the stories are uninteresting the atmosphere is great and mulder and scully are fantastic .

>original series had 20-25 episode seasons
>episodes were 45 mins
>200+ episodes overall

lol fuck that. ship has sailed bro. I get watching it back then but in this day and age you gotta re-evaluate your life if you can justify watching this old ass show over other old ass kinos whether it be movies or TV series

I have no idea what you're referring to.

Disgusting zoomer.

Hey man, i'm a zoomer who got into x-files late and love it.

Definitely worth a watch in my opinion

stupid ass fucking question

The first season is very hit or miss, the next five seasons are pure kino.

The one with the Indian guy without legs living inside people's butts seriously scarred me as a kid.

Watch the first four seasons. If you stop at the season 4 finale, then x-files has one of the wildest endings of any show ever.

Yeah, but you'll miss Folie a Deux

Reddit thread i see

That woman is hotter than anyone you'll ever get within 10 feet of

and here we have the reddit poster, accusing others of being reddit to place blame elsewhere

I tried to watch Twin Peaks, the first episode is shit. Fucking everyone in the town is just banging everyone else. Some whore dies then one of her bfs is instantly in love with some other chick. Whole thing was retarded and not believable.

>tfw no scully gf

More like 2 feet. That fat virgin doesn't leave his basement even to go to the store.

>Muh believability
Look kid, I admire your moxy, but if you're looking for "realism" maybe try spying on your dad while he's fucking your mom

bad 90s acting IMO

it did not age very well

It's interesting as very high-influence time capsule of the 90's zeitgeist in America. Very anti-government and critical of everything.
Most of the episodes probably aged like milk, but I could be wrong. S1 is clumsy, but charming. Strides were hit during S2-S5. Then it gradually went to shit. Some eps featured some pretty wicked gore, and I wondered how some of that shit made it on television.
Also the chemistry between the two leads are fire.

take your meds

I've probably seen them all, going back throug it now due to lockdown and have stripped it down to 50 episodes torrented.
There's good mytharc episodes but you can ignore quite a few, basically just need the season opener and finale for the first 4 seasons to get the gist. There's some kino midseason Krychek and Smoking man eps that are solid.
The rest is selected monster of the week episodes for seasons 1-7. You can find dozens of guides online for the best ones. They usually accurate.
Also note you're a adhd riddled zoomer fag who probably wastes that much time on tiktok in one month
unironically kill yourself after you get that cock out of your mouth

s1-4 are amazing, after that it starts to drop off.

Absolutely
Don't remind me.
