At what point did you realise that this movie is a goddamn masterpiece?
At what point did you realise that this movie is a goddamn masterpiece?
This Reddit revisionist bullshit has got to stop
The prequels are absolute trash
Hell, Return of the Jedi has a lot of pretty glaring issues as well and is an average film at best
Anyone who says otherwise is a delusional retard

What kind of schizo response is this lmao
>The prequels are absolute trash
>Hell, Return of the Jedi has a lot of pretty glaring issues as well and is an average film at best
These are two opinions that are parroted endlessly by redditors because it's what RLM said. How can you claim to be against "Reddit revisionist bullshit" while spouting their opinions? Redditors hate the prequels but love Disneyshit like Filoniwars and the sequels.
Are you dumb or just in denial? They have a whole god damn subreddit just for shilling the prequels
The Disney movies are just as bad, it's all a poor and sad attempt to recapture the magic, yet entirely devoid of soul
And what the fuck is a RLM
>They have a whole god damn subreddit just for shilling the prequels
Do you mean the prequel memes one? You know that they are using those memes to make fun of the movies right? They don't actually like them. And you should know by now what RLM is if you go on this board at all.
Who's paying me?
lol
>they
The jig is up, Reddit nigger
You have to go back
All the prequels suffer from:
>Awkward pacing
>Stilted dialogue
>Bland, uninventive cinematography
>Over-reliance on CGI (which gets more and more egregious as the prequels continue)
>Very boring, hamfisted subtext
Characters act illogically and do things without motivation, such as Nute Gunray, who's essentially willing to fund an intergalactic war because... Padme embarrassed him in the Phantom Menace? The CIS are one of the antagonists of the trilogy, particularly in 1 and 2, yet they do a piss-poor job of explaining what they are and why they have such a bee in their bonnet. We just understand very vaguely that they're in the Outer Rim and that the Republic apparently isn't nice enough to them, but this is both poorly explained and poorly illustrated.
These aren't good movies, even Revenge of the Sith is mediocre outside of some smidgens of creativity and emotionally gripping scenes. BUT, the good things that they do have going for them still puts them ahead of the sequel trilogy; because one man's vision can get some things right; but a sterile, factory-produced product that's heavily influenced by focus groups gets nothing right or wrong, it just bores you to tears.
Ultimately, THIS scene:

Is still more memorable than anything in the sequels.
The prequels were much better written, they had actual characters and story, not a bunch of memes and one-liners that lack any emotion or coherence. Luke is a cliched everyboy "hero" that goes through an absurdly rapid transformation between the fifth and the sixth episodes. Anakin's emotional instability and his exposure as a psychopath are gripping; and his doomed relationship with Padme is touching. In the "original trilogy" Han, Leia, Darth Vader and Obi Wan are complete meme characters, nothing about them is remotely believable or human. And why doesn't anyone care about deaths in those movies? Leia's planet destruction, Luke's stepparents' death, all of the blown up rebels--the list could go on--all the deaths are forgotten moments later.
As for direction, the movies from the "original trilogy" were mostly incoherent, badly edited and full of logical problems. The prequel trilogy is a work of a "vulgar auteur".
I feel neutral about the series overall, and honestly don't care about trolling or contrarianism. Here are my sincere rankings:
1. "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones"
2. "Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace"
3. "Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith"
4. "Star Wars"
5. "The Empire Strikes Back"
6. "Return of the Jedi"
7.
8. "The Force Awakens"
9. "The Last Jedi"
10. "Rise of Skywalker"
Episodes 7, 8 and 9 aren't even Star Wars movies. They are Marvel flicks masquerading as one.
fpbp every single time
Swap ROTJ and TPM and this is unironically correct
When I first watched it because I realized what Lucas was trying to tell us.
Okay, do you judge the Sequels as harshly?
dude I slaughtered a bunch of literal children a few hours ago, but you know the jedi are actually evil, from my point of view ofcourse haha
imagine unironically legitimately caring about starshit
This is what it's all about.
Episodes 1-3 are at least a VISION. George Lucas put his heart and soul into those films and it shows. Sure, some of it is kinda terrible but at least there's a PASSION behind it.
Compare that to The Rise of Skywalker which is just a fucking sweatshop-produced zombie and you see why more and more people look back on 1-3 fondly these days.
>Okay, do you judge the Sequels as harshly?
as first poster said, they are space trash
Correct list here.
1. Revenge of the Sith
2. Attack of the Clones
3. Phantom Menace
4. A New Hope
5. The Empire Strikes Back
6. Return of the Jedi
7. Rogue One
8. Solo
9. Force Awakens
10. Last Jedi
11. Rise of Skywalker
I was enthralled from the first moment with the battle scene with the drums or whatever... But what sealed it was the Duku fight at the very beginning. I was expecting a long setup before any real boss fight.
I don't get the "dude compare it to the sequels" non argument. Them being trash doesn’t make the prequels suddenly good.
It's like saying these marvel flicks will suddenly become good if someone makes even worse capeshit flicks in the future. They will forever stay capeshit garbage no matter what.
Honestly I only think Revenge & Attack of the Clones are the only great Star Wars film.
Yes, you fucking retard
The dumbest part of this topic is that there's now two camps of absolute cretins who try to out-stupid each other by defending either the stilted hacked together vomit piles that are the prequels or pushing the soulless heap of pandering bullshit and bad acting that is the sequels
It's like two groups arguing over who's better at eating shit, and it would be fucking hilarious if it wasn't so fucking sad since Star wars and Empire are amazing films that created a world with so much more potential
PREQUEL BAD
>t. RLM bootlicker
Literally no one on Yas Forums defends the sequels. The highest praise is that they're not as bad as the prequels.
immediately got the manchildren seething lmao good job
That was like a decade prior, retard.
>Literally no one on Yas Forums defends the sequels.
Why though? Wouldn't that be even more contrarian than defending the prequels?
>manchildren
Says the moron defending the prequels made for kids. Grow up
people have done some impressive mental gymnastics to not remember when the movies came out. half of the OTniggers were applauding TFA for a "return to form", just like ol' mike stoklasa did.
such a masterpiece am i rite
This. These zoomer retards are unable to separate the movie from the video games and cartoons they played as kids.
When it was translated into Mandarin and back to English, full circle.
I definitely hated it the least of the 3, and like it more than the new ones.
around about here
while the story is trash, it looked like a film to me. visually, it has something eps 2 and 3 did not. they look more like a video game compared to phantom menace.
This
>Over-reliance on CGI (which gets more and more egregious as the prequels continue)
I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say the excessive use of CGI was necessary at least on the large open shots because the Clone Wars were intended to be a titanic conflict on the scale of the World Wars IRL. There's no way you could really capture a scale this massive with just models alone.
the highs are so incredibly high though
>At what point did you realise that this movie is a goddamn masterpiece?
When I compared it to the sequels turd smears, and after pretending the OT never existed.
>ants

You are reddit, so go back.
When the opening crawl said "There are heroes in both sides"
Too bad the fighting is between robots and clones so nothing is at stake for us to care about. The effects of the war are never felt on Coruscant.
That's babby's first symbolism. The real symbolism is how both Anakin and Obi-Wan have blue lightsabers during their final duel, representing Anakin's willful self-delusion that he's the great protector of the Republic.
>all these space vehicles based off of old WWII tanks, ships, and planes
Fucking KINO
t.retard who didnt watch the movie
>Too bad the fighting is between robots and clones so nothing is at stake for us to care about.
???????????????
>Hell, Return of the Jedi has a lot of pretty glaring issues as well and is an average film at best
This is the most brainlet take there is, right up there with "Empire is the best because the bad guys win!"
>Too bad the fighting is between robots and clones so nothing is at stake for us to care about.
That's kinda the point. This is a war engineered for the benefit of a few (only one man really). Everyone else is nothing more than a pawn on the chessboard.
2005
This concept is literally too hard for anti prequels drones to understand. If there isnt a feature length film on a side character its shit according to them
>doesn't like the prequels
>doesn't realize ROTJ is the best Star Wars film
Fucking retard
When I rewatched the prequels last year for the first time in 15 years.
you are reddit
Revenge of the Sith unironically my favorite Star Wars movie and not just because I fapped to pregnant Padme non-stop for like three years after seeing it. It also has by far the best soundtrack and the best themes. Endless war, temptation, fatherhood, pregnancy and motherhood, the destruction of liberty and rule of law, the final fate of democracy (tyranny). It all combines into a film that you can't help but watch.
2005
There's a fan edit called The Blackened Mantle that narrows down the prequels into a single 3 hour film, it's obviously the work of patricians seeing how kino it is. Also it uses the japanese audio which makes it more alien, fresh and engaging. It's on bitchute

>if the dark side is so weak... prove it to me
When Darth Vader lurged off the operating table and yelled NNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
These translations are terrible.
Are English translations of Japanese films this bad?
when the last skywalker made it look like one by comparison
>Backstroke of the West
glad to see another hopeless situation warrior hasn't forgotten those good times.
The scene when Anakin screams at Obi-Wan "I hate you", the most powerful scene in all of Star Wars. The emotion in that single line give me a chill every time. The moment when Anakin truly becomes vader as he gives in to the dark side. Such amazing acting in that one scream, amazing scene.
