Korea probably paid for those oscars too in order to promote their film industry. The oscars have always been corrupt and korea has always been about artificially creating cultural exports. K-pop came about because the IMF suggested korea do so in order to help balance their sheets. It wasn't organically developed in the slightest.

I don't normally buy into conspiracy theories but the think about K-Pop might be right. I've never actually encountered, even online, a non-Korean who even knows what the fuck it is and yet every media outlet wants to talk about how it's taking the world by storm.

It's not "can't" it's "don't care to". Why waste your time with a film that is in a format that takes away from your immersion when your own country produces hundreds of films a year that are actually in your own language.

It's a feel good movie about how poor people are poor because of their own poor choices, and when given an opportunity will naturally become self destructive, guaranteeing they will remain poor. I felt bad that the rich dad who did nothing wrong died, but it sent a powerful message about how you should not even try to help the poor.

They're slow readers so they keep getting to the half-way mark of the subtitle and then it switches to the next line, and they keep missing the second half of everything that's said.

I remember in school whenever the teacher would call on people to read out loud, I don't what other people's experience with that was but I remember almost every other student being slow and plodding and monotone like they couldn't read the words and understand what they were reading at the same time. Even in Jr. High and High school I remember it was a little bit better but it was still around half of the students who read like morons. And I don't mean that word as a generic insult, I mean it in the clinical sense.

I even remember a few kids who would throw tantrums in class because they didn't want to read, or they'd refuse to read and just get sent to the principal's office because that was better than the humiliation of sounding like a complete retard in front of everybody.

I always wondered what it was like to be dumb in school. I imagine it was pretty bad but I didn't have much sympathy for them at the time since most of them chose to vent their frustration by bullying me out on the playground.
