How would an outstander differentiate between a drunk narrowly avoiding a catastrophe he caused and a drunk narrowly avoiding a catastrophe he didn't cause, everything else being equal?
How would a system that does not punish being intoxicated on a job involving direct responsibility for hundreds of lives at the slightest transgression avoid thousands of deaths in the long run due to people being responsible not being at their maximum metal faculties?
Think before you post.
Apologies for my post. I am CLEARLY in the wrong.
all hail Boeing
Everything you said, but unironically, and with "NTSB" instead of "Boeing".
I think about that one close-up of the glass that ends with him grabbing it off the table and relapsing quite a bit. Watched that scene with my ex-alcoholic father, and it hit home for the both of us.
Don't remember anything else about the movie though.

absolute fucking kino
That's something stupid to pick up on tbqh; obviously they shoud punish a pilot who drinks before flying, regardless of anything of any good thing they may have done.
The thing that annoys me in that film is that he chose that moment to come out and be honest; he should have just said he did not think the girl drank the vodka and nothing else. It makes some sense in the movie because he had to stop lying and he also felt he should protect her from that accusation, but still annoys me rewatching it; you can lie today and start getting better tomorrow without destroying your life.
This movie was clearly anti-alcohol, anti-Boeing, and pro-cocaine.
>How would an outstander differentiate between a drunk narrowly avoiding a catastrophe he caused and a drunk narrowly avoiding a catastrophe he didn't cause, everything else being equal?
I mean, in the accident of the film they knew that it was caused by mechanical failure, and his substance abuse never caused any accident in his job; it only becomes a plot point because the companies want to put the entire blame on him and he has his personal drama
I don't think this is reveal of the truth was to do anything besides giving himself relief of all the shit that was on top of him (IE his divorced senpai, his coworkers, his self destructive habits)
Movie adaptation when?
The mechanical failure could have been caused or aggravated by his decision at take-off to punch through a storm at max speed, where he was also drunk
he would have caused an accident at some point. you can't just let someone fly passenger planes drunk and high continuously. would you trust an F1 driver to drive you home if he was drunk as fuck?

could it not be argued him having alcohol in his system helped him not to panic and get best out of the situation?
Experienced pilots don’t panic, sober or not. You treat every second of a disaster as if there is a possibility you will survive.
that is plausible, but is it also plausible that he could have some kind of epileptic fit, heart attack or stroke while flying? or even pass out before take off or something, giving the company a huge scandal on their shoulders. he was a time bomb waiting to happen. okay he might not have crashed the plane on another day but he was risking people's livelihoods at the very least
That ending was so fucking dumb. They even used simulations to replicate that no other pilot could replicate his control over the situation. They didnt even have to throw the stewardess under the bus. “They found 2 bottle in the trash!” “Yeah idk maybe the cleaning crew missed them and someone threw them out when they noticed.” Fuck that movie.
exactly
>I dont know I dont look in the trash before take off. Maybe a passenger put them in there from his minibar? Airports are a nightmare for lack of putting your trash somewhere
>you can lie today and start getting better tomorrow without destroying your life.
But that's exactly opposite to the message rehab and AA people trying to send
The scene was a giant "I am John I am alcoholic" moment.
do you not remember the film? she asked him a very pointed question, he couldn't worm himself out of it without having to blame that woman, which he couldn't bring himself to do
Wasn’t he high off his ass on coke and hungover from binge drinking?
desu though you’d think they’d sweep it under the rug , he saved them from a hundred million dollar settlement.
The how come the co pilot was panicking? While he did do his job and role as co pilot, he would have not be able to save that plane like the pilot did. The pilot had a more calmer and clearer head and thinking during the scene.
He's a nigger of course he was drunk on the job.
Is it true that the director made another movie about alcoholism???
Why? Is he alcoholic himself?
Because he’s a co-pilot, duh. Second fiddle. Silver medal. Less-than. You get the idea.
>this movie is clearly anti-alcohol
>advertises Bushmills, Stoli, Corona, Absolut etc
hmmm....
When I watched this scene I thought they would bring it up later on and make a big deal about the pilot lying to control
Hollywood hammed it up that’s all.
>start getting better tomorrow
Said every single addict ever.
They don't.
>2 drinks
he had three, after a night cocaine and drinks....we was still drink before he had the the 3 drinks, fucking retard....watch the movie before you post
apologies for my post. I am CLEARLY in the wrong.
all hail Boeing.
The way the copilot's character was handled was bullshit. First they make him scream and cry like a weenie which if you ever listen to real life CVR recordings from crashes almost never happens, and if it does not until the final seconds before they die in a horrible fiery crash. Pilots almost never lose their composure in catastrophic situations.
Then to top that they had the hospital scene where he gives the "religious antagonist" speech while his wife says "PRAISE JESUS!" over and over again like a lunatic. And then he's never seen again and is of no consequence.
The movie wasn't bad but they really dropped the ball on that one.
i kinda hate motivational movies like this because it's very unrealistic, if it was he would never survive the accident anyways and let's not forget that he got a very good looks with a good job and some hot chick yet he is still alcoholic and miserable
Except he KNOWS he can't do it himself. He will just end up drinking and driving again. He needs to confess while he has this moment of clarity so that society can force him to get help
Directed by John Woo featuring Tom Cruise
>only two
coward
Yeah I don’t like emotional payoffs in movies either user
who would in their right mind let a shitskin pilot?
it was bs
there are literal TOPGUN graduates that are right seaters for most if not all their airline careers
>Thank you for flying with us today, user.
to be honest, he WAS a chump who got sent to jail for being honest. but in the context of the movie it works anyway, point is that he wanted to quit drinking bad enough to go to jail for it.
>Tenerife tower, KLM 4805.
>Go ahead KLM 4805
>takeoffclearancesayssayagain?
>Say again?
lol what could go wrong
I hate one word titles
>attractive people aren't alcoholics
it's probably the exact opposite IRL, hot people get into drinking harder while they're younger and learn strategies as they age to cope with the damage. At some point they fall apart but consider that to get into a partying lifestyle you need to be fuckable at some point when you get into it.
idk honestly it's not like im attractive or i know attractive people so yeah you are right
LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
SLOW FUCKING FAT AMERICAN SHIT
jawohl (enthusiastic yes)
FUCK YOU PANAM
GAAN
>SouthJet 227 did you say uhh...inverted?
you're a racist
that doesn't look like it'd kill all passenger desu
As a MNIE fan who watched it during it's original run, this movie is mostly memorable for me because of Catalina's naked body and bush.
no shit, shit skin
it's not a real picture. More like what must have happened during the incident.
The plane still on the ground "only" lost 330 passengers (out of 380).
The one already flying just crashed and all the 248 crews and passengers died seconds later
Real talk, what was he actually on that day?
This movie was fucking amazing but it really made me want some coke and it all sucks and is too expensive around here tfw
Oh I forgot also I thought it was retarded that his chekov's plane never flew. He should have flown to the carribean with his son at the end of the film or something instead of that gay "I'm writing a paper about you, my hero :DDDD"
