Netflix is desperate for content, they're throwing money at anything to try and continue to have a large market share as the streaming wars continue and we come closer to the point where every major studio has their own service. The problem is most of their content is trash, they own only 1 IP (Stranger Things), they're completely reliant on other companies to make their content and they have no plan to reach a state of solvency. This is made worst by the fact they've reached market saturation in the US and are starting to do so in other large markets as well. Their days are numbered.

If rumors from the sets of Star Wars and Pacific Rim are to be believed, he's hard to work with due to allowing himself to become a little too starstruck with the major name actors around him, and also buts heads with writers because of changes he wants to see in the scripts he works with. The IP is still fairly active, and it's not like HBO wouldn't be desperate for something to be their flagship series for a while given how poorly GoT ended, how its prequel isn't going to take that spot, and Watchmen failed hard.
