Blowing up gallifrey, fine cause its a time travel show there is a way around it, retconning the Doctor as a bunch of other people before hartnell, that's hard to undo.

They can handwave it as the Doctor stealing the same Tardis as he had pre Hartnell and the Tardis chose itself to stay in Police Box form to remind the Doctor of his past. The reason why it's a police box before Hartnell could be explained away with saying that Ruth liked it that way.

I remember not liking that Moffat showed the first doctor stealing the tardis. I thought it was goign too far but in hindsight it blows any pre-hartnell doctors out of the water.
