Stephen Colbert

What went wrong with this guy? He used to be actually funny. Now 90% of his show is "orange man bad". I'm not saying he can't make fun of Trump but, fuck, at least the other talk show hosts have variety. Fallon plays dumb games with his guests, Kimmel has that fat Mexican guy and fucks around with Matt Damon, Conan has a sidekick too, etc. Even Oliver and Meyers and Noah talk about other things for half of their shows.

But Colbert? He is so obsessed he made a cartoon show about Trump in the White House... and it bombed, even with the liberal critics. Why did he become so low effort?

Ping pong pizza

I'm pretty sure the problem is that he's highly restricted on what he's allowed to do or say because it's a "late night show" on a major network so the studio dictates that he must keep his material safe and bland enough that he can have as big of a boomer demographic as possible. On Comedy Central they didn't need to restrict his actions because they didn't need to worry about alienating anybody; viewers of the CC channel knew to expect more edgy and possibly offensive humor.
Unfortunately, since it's a daily news type show he needs to cover current events, but pretty much the only thing he can talk about without possibly offending part of the userbase is making fun of trump. So, that's all he does.

Because the only things he ever did of note were fooling idiots into thinking he was a conservative, and the WH Correspondents Dinner. He’s an actor, not a personality.
Seriously, when he’s not doing his Trump voice I don’t remember a damn thing about his show, and I only remember that because of psychic pebbles breaking down his impersonation.

Attached: two pedophiles.jpg (480x360, 21.74K)

He makes a better sarcastic conservative than a sincere liberal.

Colbert wasn't trying to fool people into thinking he's conservative. The entire point of his old show was that it was an obvious parody.
There were some small number of idiots that didn't "get it" but that clearly wasn't the intention.
Colbert Report was unironically pretty funny and entertaining. The Late Show is crap, though.

I'm convinced that after years of pretending to be a retarded conservative, he's now pretending to be a retarded liberal.

I just find it hard to believe that, after however long he's been on the Late Show, he hasn't fully made it his own. I mean Letterman had that signature laugh of his. I wonder if Colbert was only funny on CC because he was playing a character.

Bam.

Did you actually watch him on CC? He's actually funny when given free reins.

It really makes me sad because I used to love him on Harvey Birdman and Strangers with Candy. And Colbert report was awesome. They probably got some real shit on him.

it's called selling out and it'll happen to you

Can't sell out when you got nothing to sell

He was popular for doing the conservative parody. He started the new show, played it straight, and it was rating poison. So he started the schtick up again but it devolved into orange man bad because he's swallowed too much semen by this point. It's a shame. I'd enjoy talking with the guy about nerdy shit but he's just not cut out for late night talk show host. They should give a show to Norm MacDonald.

Comedians are good at different things. Colbert is specifically really good at sarcasm, irony, and mockery. That just doesn't really work very well for the kind of show he's on now. Colbert Report worked because his comedy style perfectly matched with the shows premise. With his new show, they're trying to force him to do comedy that suits more laid back and cocky people like Leno and Conan O'Brien.
He's forced to work with pretty much the only tool he has access to on the show that plays to his strengths; making fun of Trump.

Trump broke him

>They probably got some real shit on him.
If by "real shit" you mean "truckloads of money". Don't kid yourself, Colbert is doing this job because he's making way more money than he ever did before. I'm sure he's self aware enough to realize this work isn't as good as his past stuff but he's comforted by his massive piles of cash.

well yeah that, plus this

>it goes so long it starts to look like it's scrolling up

>Now 90% of his show is "orange man bad"
The thing is user he is THE ORANGE MAN BAD SHOW!
What I mean by that is that he created the genre. He was the first one that got huge amounts of views for being ORANGE MAN BAD. Now it is all liberals watch because Trump's living breathing heart triggers them so much. The genre has ruined all of late night. Even Conan who use to be the exception is doing ORANGE MAN BAD humor because his ratings were probably low.

Trump is finding new ways every day to fuck up our country and make an ass of himself. Colbert is just capitalizing on that.

Two Scoops.

how embarrassing, you've gotta kill yourself quick

This guy jumped the shark as a human being when his audience cheered Comey being fired and he had to reprimand/remind them that that was a bad thing.

It's a show aimed squarely at Oikophobes. He beats the dead horse with some Orange Man Bad jokes and the audience all laugh and pat themselves on the back for not being like the idiots who voted for or like him. It's a way to justify to themselves how much better they are than other Americans.

4 more years.

Colbert was very funny, and I considered myself a big fan. Strangers With Candy, Harvey Birdman, his work on The Daily Show, and The Colbert Report are all high quality. Even though I don't even have normal cable, I had high hopes for such a genuinely funny person having this platform.

But we all know how that turned out.

>He used to be actually funny.
Did he really?

probably shitty writers

youtube.com/watch?v=RCVBEE1SfXI

It was even funnier later when Jon Stewart called him out on it.

old.vocaroo.com/i/s0TDWr7WpChh

Why do people like Jon Stewart?
That jew was never funny.

There is no greater indictment of late night comedians then these two simple words.

Colbert report is a joke that gets old in 60 seconds, but strangers with candy was genuinely funny

I think Trump is a terrible person and leader but who the fuck wants to watch this? Why do people want comedy to lecture them about politics and current events? There was a thread earlier people were posting about which pornstars are redpilled, what the fuck is going on with people that they need fucking late night hosts and porn whores to affirm their politics for them? Political comedy wasn't always this cringe, why did everything become so fucking retarded?

>He's actually funny when given free reins.
Colbert had an easy target with the bush family. Trump is the new kid on the block and colbert was too arrogant to adapt. He just stayed on autopilot and spit out talking points. He literally became the caricature he was previously parodying.

>I think Trump is a terrible person and leader
Why?

> that it was an obvious parody
The funniest part to me was when he'd fuck around and actually make a solid conservative point by mistake

Why is it that his team of professional comedians can't come up with Trump jokes as funny as NEETs on a lithuanian corn meal review site

His show was bombing, lowest rated late nite at the time and things were only getting worse. Then Trump won and they switched like 80% of the show to talking about how orange man bad. The ratings skyrocketed and it saved the show. The writers likely don't know how to do anything else at this point and/or they are scared to try something new. The formula works, braindead libs eat that shit up.

this

Because those writers live in California and are thus detached from reality.

cause reasons, wait there are no reasons, i bet if trump cured cancer people would complain cause he put doctors out of work!

any good examples?

Unironically Trump Derangement Syndrome. Many such cases.

Spreading fast and needs to be contained. There are some people that lost their minds when Trump came down that escalator and they never recovered.

Any more scoops and he has a heart attack on air

> Dems: "Comey should be fired!"

>Dems: "We're outraged he was fired!"

>Dems: "Comey not being fired is a Russian conspiracy!"
>Dems: "Comey being fired is a Russian conspiracy!"

>on a lithuanian corn meal review site
kek I wonder if such a site exists

>I'm not saying he can't make fun of Trump

I think it's pretty clear that's exactly what you're saying, bro. Colbert has always talked about politics. He often has politicians and journalists on the show to talk about current events. Joking about politics is the shtick that has made his entire career.

And when you take into account that you have easily the most incompetent and ignorant president in recent history running the country right now, and every other day he says or does something stupid, so there's never not new material to mock him with, why wouldn't he talk about Trump so much? It's what people tune in for. It's Colbert's job to talk politics and make dumb jokes about it. And if you want to cry abut low hanging fruit, then whatever. But that doesn't change the fact that he's doing what his comedian gimmick has been for about two decades at this point.

He doesn't even tell jokes anymore.

>I think it's pretty clear that's exactly what you're saying, bro
I think you're projecting.

Wow some bait with actual effort. (You)

Again with this shit? Look you stupid fuck, context matters. Comey's handling of the Hillary emails announcement, i.e. making a big show about announcing he was compelled to reopen an investigation into her just days before the election, but not telling the public that Trump himself was also under investigation by the FBI at the same time, was a good reason to fire him. Because there was clearly some kind of politics shit going on with Comey, no matter how holier than thou "I'm just being principled" he tried to play it.

HOWEVER that's not why Trump fired him, even though that's how his administration tried to lied about it. Anybody with half a brain could see that was absolute bullshit. Trump fired him because Comey was investigating Trump. And that's a bad thing because it's egregious abuse of power to fire people who are working under you in government and are looking into if you've done something illegal.

He hasn't changed. Colbert Report is the exact same thing he's doing now. His final entertaining roles were in Harvey Birdman & Strangers With Candy.

Trump fired the pandemic response team and then has persistently denied how bad it is- he definitely won't be curing cancer

Really? So despite having a complete clown show 24/7 at the white house, the one late night show host who's entire comedic profile is built on making jokes about politics shouldn't cover it so much because.... he's "obsessed" somehow? Come on, you couldn't be more disingenuous about this if you tried. You're borderline crying "don't mock muh pwesident" because that's all you can do. You can't refute the jokes, so the best you can dois cry about how unfair it's to mock him so much. Like it's unfair to crack jokes about the most powerful human being on the planet.

>ORANGE MAN BAD

Mental gymnastics, ladies and gentlemen.

>having a complete clown show 24/7 at the white house
CNN browses Yas Forums?

>context matters
Hmm I guess Colbert’s audience isn’t smart enough to know that

And now it's proven that the FBI intentionally botched every single FISA application.

No he didn’t

You must be really bored to type this all out in a deliberate misreading of the OP.

Well duh. Most Americans are entirely ignorant about what is going on in politics.

OP is complaining that a comedian who's best known about making political jokes is still making political jokes.

he never shit on obama like he did with bush and trump
