because he's middlebrow

This. They're pretty easy to get into, they're competently made, and you can feel better about yourself for enjoying an old movie

now that is some deep shit

strong scripts with credible turns. Good top actors. Tight direction. Kind that builds on suspense, not just shock cares. Often a good sense of humour.

Wouldn't the Avengers and capeshit be the same thing though?

Pretty much. Hitchcock was more innovative than capeshit, and his films aren't as blatantly corporate as capeshit, but Hitchcock films aren't that much smarter or deeper

Vertigo
The Birds
Psycho

Because they're good and accessible.

Avengers was way more racist

idk never seen one, I only watch Se7en on repeat but edited so that it's only the rainy scenes with the sound off

because they are really comfy

>cock movies

nah they're bottom of the barrel-tier

Pretentious assholes who pretend that old movies can be entertaining without the over-acting, black and white, incomprehensible cultural references and "humor" & cringe worthy effects pulling you out of the movie

>the acting isn't realistic, that means it's bad

yes because they are people not cartoon characters. it was good for the people back then because they had nothing to compare it to

If you don't think the acting here is kino, you just have bad taste
youtube.com/watch?v=R4v_yRFf4-Y

>anyone who doesn't share my opinions is "just pretending" and secretly they agree with me
This is a warning sign of narcissistic personality disorder and lack of empathy. Seek help

because you know im right. If you had only 3 movies to pick to watch for the rest of your life it wouldn't be some shitty fucking silent film from 1931 with 100% RT score. It's pure elitism yet you people always have to argue

I don't like silent films they bore me. But I do in fact love 1930s/40s comedies, noir, musicals, gangster films, etc. And If I could only pick three films one of them would be Pic Related. Other two would be Hackers which is a 90s flick and then probably Superman (1978)

Attached: thin-man.jpg (1634x2201, 1.83M)

Almost every single day, I watch at least 20 minutes of Birth of a Nation. Not the same parts, I'll just pick a random section and watch for a little. I know this may be difficult to understand, but some people think a little differently than you

the music, the cinematography, the acting .. It's just stunning. anyone who doesn't agree with me is a pleb and should go back to crap like avatar . I bet you think movies are good just cause a lot of people watched them LOL

The acting in Hitchcock is top notch though. Always had the best stars, every gesture and look meticulously directed.

I dunno, Tippi Hendren is pretty bad

What is your favorite Hitchcock kino? I think Vertigo is probably his most competent film, but North by Northwest is definitely my favorite.

Rebecca or Rope

Well no shit because if you could only pick 3 movies they better be porn

Strangers on a Train and The Lodger are the only ones that I've really liked (although the ending to The Lodger was fucking gay)

No one acts elitist about fucking Hitchcock or classic American films you retard. The elitists are the people who scoff at American movies and won't shut up about European arthouse shit from the fifties and sixties or who worship hacks like Robert Altman

Yas Forums cringe
Sure thing bro
You have to be fucking kidding me

>extremely retarded unnatural stabbing that's supposed to be dramatic I guess , 60 years ago
>no knife penetration cause they don't know how to do effects - please don't give me shit about gore being bad, it's literally a slasher
>cringe annoying meme sounds
>Completely unnatural acting, woman standing still, a person getting tickled would be more animated in their defense

go and ahead and defend this shit. If they filmed something like that today in color you would call it a C movie and say it's complete trash, but because it has famous name and it's old then it's le cultured kino. You probably never even watched it the whole way through, it's okay I know you have to lie

Just different levels of elitism

>it's unrealistic, that means it's bad

Because he's kino.

Altman was the fucking man and European art house from the 50s and 60s is bomb you’re the hack you little fucking bitch

Not at all. I just happen to like old movies, and I also like newer movies. I don't claim to be some "film buff cinephile" or some shit. Classic films aren't for you, okay. But getting this defensive and angry about it is pretty fucking pathetic. You're the epitome of that "STOP LIKING WHAT I DON'T LIKE" meme

yup, back to your script. theres no point talking to signalling retards

Altman was a fucking hack faggot who is gets heaps of praise simply because whatever the Hollywood style was, he did the opposite. Dull meandering movies with pretentious actors ad libbing shitty lines and critics licked his asshole because they're "naturalistic".

Are you saying you can't get into a movie unless it's completely realistic? What films do you like?

If I wanted realism I'd go outside, I watch movies to escape reality.

this is completely retarded . what is suspension of disbelief? none of you actually countered anything I said about that Hitchcock scene, if it wasn't Hitchcock and was filmed identically today you would say it's horrible and think it's some kind of a parody or unintentional comedy. ffs. whatever enjoy your circle jerk

What movies do you like?

>extremely retarded unnatural stabbing that's supposed to be dramatic I guess , 60 years ago
Overhead stabbing towards camera works better than other knife stances would in tandem with repeated cuts to victim's face to communicate shock of each stab cinematographically
>no knife penetration cause they don't know how to do effects
Done because of hays code not technical limitations. I fail to see how actually showing the knife actually entering her body when that's clearly what's happening would improve the scene.
>cringe annoying meme sounds
lol
>Completely unnatural acting, woman standing still, a person getting tickled would be more animated in their defense
She's being cornered in a shower and stabbed repeatedly what the fuck is she supposed to do in that situation

>hacks like Robert Altman
your fuckign retarded nigga

you sound retarded. do people talk slower to you than they do to others? do they say "ga ga, goo goo, dipshit"? want me to change your diaper faggot?

All sorts of movies that are popular
first 4 random ones that popped in my head Dunkirk get him to the Greek contagion the rock sicario

So you're saying that this whole time, I've been arguing with a retard who doesn't even use punctuation to separate individual movies when listing a bunch of movies?

>Overhead stabbing towards camera works better than other knife stances would in tandem with repeated cuts to victim's face to communicate shock of each stab cinematographically
That's not how murderers stab people. It's vicious with quick attacks to get past the person's defenses and hit vital areas. Even if he wants to do the overhead attack he wouldn't have the knife suspended still in mid air for 5 minutes for dramatic effect. This is cheese that was only impressive to audiences who never saw a better scene
youtube.com/watch?v=nQZuUha20Ts
like ^ which is 100x more visceral and it's not even a fucking knife
>Done because of hays code not technical limitations. I fail to see how actually showing the knife actually entering her body when that's clearly what's happening would improve the scene.
then don't show the fucking fake knife touching her body and withdrawing with no effect like he's tickling her. it's completely immersion breaking
>She's being cornered in a shower and stabbed repeatedly what the fuck is she supposed to do in that situation
Get out of the way, twist around , or the more common response (especially in a slippery shower), drop to the ground, ball up, try to protect face and head. Not fucking stand there like a statue screaming
liveleak.com/view?t=sXN25_1549440083
I can't believe you're defending this campy shit where they didn't even have to disturb the shower curtain

Some people are open to the idea of a film not being realistic, but rather being an exaggeration of real life molded in a way to either entertain an audience or to make the viewer think about something. Not everyone is a realism obsessed autist who can't get invested in a film unless he literally forgets that he's watching a movie

Contrarianism.

t. Never watched one Hitchcock film.

Because he makes good shit and he's a cool dude. Watching Alfred Hitchcock Presents is excellent too. There are some stinkers but by and large the quality's damn solid for short stories.

Rear Window every time

Attached: rear window.jpg (1532x1066, 199.64K)

For the last time, there is a difference between stylish lack of realism (most coreographed scenes for example) and lazy and cheesy scenes like they make fun of here
youtube.com/watch?v=l4UFQWKjy_I
You would not accept this stabbing scene in a modern movie you would think it's a joke. You're making excuses cause it's a "classic"

All his movies are incredibly popular classics, how is he for contrarians?

If I could pick only three, they would probably be Stalker, Dogville and Grand Illusion.

Most of the modern films that I enjoy are ones with over the top acting that come from Japan. Again, some people have different opinions when it comes to film. Obviously over the top acting doesn't always fit with the tone of the film, but I'm not making excuses just because it's a classic. I don't even like Psycho that much, I just understand that not everyone who says they like a film is only pretending to like it

Imagine watching old movies when cinema technology and actors became better

>90s film is more visceral than 60s film
No shit retard. Marty doesn't have to adhere to hays code and audiences are more desensitized to ultraviolence which allows the insert shot of pen entering neck. But aside from that one shot, pesci jamming his fist into some guy's neck is not as impactful as the cutting in Psycho. And besides the actual murder is not the interesting part of the scene unless you're seeing it in 1960 like you said. It's the use of montage.
Anyways you're on this obnoxious logician register all reddit filmbros seem to be on that has nothing to do with art so I really have no interest continuing this talk about what an actor in a film could have should have when everyone except autists are pretty understanding that if a man corners a naked lady in a shower with a knife there's not much she can do except extend her arms and scream and don't mentally rewind through liveleak videos to envision possible methods of survival.

Is it really this hard to understand that some people have different opinions than you?

the montage is done poorly , it detracts from the scene, because of the cheesy knife hanging in the air. I understand it might have been revolutionary at the time but it doesn't make it good by today's standards, which is exactly what classicfags insist on, while nit picking and scoffing at modern films
>that if a man corners a naked lady in a shower with a knife there's not much she can do except extend her arms and scream and don't mentally rewind through liveleak videos to envision possible methods of survival.
You don't need LiveLeak it's just an example that even in a restricted space people MOVE that's why the knife wielder usually has to control them with the other arm or try to get around to their back as they reflexively curl up and cover up their exposed face and abdomen as they get hit there. they don't stand there like a statue and flail their arms around half heatedly . It's lazy and cringe. Literally imagine someone busted in to the bathroom with a super soaker with cold water you would have a more believable reaction than that actress.

>it might have been revolutionary at the time
But it wasn't. Montage was perfected in the 20s by Eisenstein. All Psycho really did is implement it in a mainstream Hollywood film. Also cheesy doesn't mean bad, and an actor's reaction doesn't have to be realistic in order to be good

People here have the worst takes on movies. Fucking tryhard cocksuckas.
